OK,

So I just bought a box of that "special K" cereal to replace my frosted flakes and fruit loops because someone said those were not so good for me since I'm trying to lose some weight. However, I am comparing both boxes (diet values) and they are almost identical.
The only differences being that the fruit loops is 160 calories Vs 150 calories the Special K has, and the fruit loops SODIUM value is 150mg or so, and the special K is 220mg.

(same serving size)

WTH!

Cereals also like to play with the serving size so it looks like it's more healthy.

QFT! Protein makes me feel less hungry through the rest of the day, compared to eating a lot of carbs.

I would get away from cereal almost entirely if you're serious about losing weight. Cereal is designed to be quick and easy, like fast food.

Move to egg whites or something else.. I'm not an expert but this should be relatively common sense. Cereal was designed to be quick and easy so it can replace a real breakfast... much in the same way fast food came out

I honestly thought that cereal would be a good way to start.

What I normally have for breakfast is a cup of coffee with about 10 to 15 saltine crackers!

Simply changing the cereal you eat is probably not going to be an effective fat loss strategy. You need to focus on everything you consume throughout the day. Fat loss is ultimately about calories in vs. calories out over an extended period of time. I would suggest tracking exactly what you eat on Fitday. In order to lose fat, you need to consume slightly less than your maintenance level of calories over an extended period of time. To get an estimate of your maintenance calories, try here:

link

Make sure to click on the link labeled "Daily Calorie Needs" to get the actual amount of calories you need to eat each day. Once you have this number, eat that number of calories each day for a week, and track you weight each morning. If you have not lost a lb. by the end of the week, drop your daily caloric intake by 200-300 and eat that much for the next week. Continue tracking your weight each morning, and continue to subtract 200-300 calories each week until you are losing about 1 lb./week.

There is a lot more to it than that, but those are the basics. I would recommend you visit the link in my sig if you are serious about it. There you can learn about diet, weights, cardio, etc.

Kind of funny that a guy named Special K is downplaying Special K. ;)

Calorie count is the sum of sugar/carbs + protein + fat + fibre... you have to compare those numbers to get an accurate reflection... no just the calorie count.
