Spec on PC I'm building for my friend.

I'm building a PC for my friend.
He mostly will be using it for.. wordprocessing and internet browsing..and possibly occasional DVD play.
Here is the spec, and tell me what you lads think

Why did you go with a celeron? AMD seems to be the best bang for the buck these days. And aussie buck or not, $455 for that monitor seems high. I've seen it for $180 US and I think there's a rebate on it too. Nice choice though.

1 AU is about 50 cents US.

Change 3 things:

Change Celeron 850 to AMD Duron 750 Retail ($40 here in the States)
Change ECS P6ISA-2 to ECS K7S5A (Should be about the same price as P6ISA-2)
Change 256MB PC133 Generic SDRAM to 256MB PC2100 Crucial DDR-SDRAM

Those 3 things will perform much, much better than the Celery 850

There is just one reason to choose Intel.
If the CPU fan fails, it's likely that duron will burn its mobo as well as itself.
(no, tomshardware video has got nuthing to do with it. I knew the facts before I saw it)
I know that it's not likely for the fan to fail, but it can happen..

Hehe, actually I have a friend who ran a Duron 700 without a HSF for a while. :Q Of course, the thing got extremely hot, but it never fried. He *did* have to shut it down a couple times because of heat, but it worked until he got HSF for it.

800 celery gets smoked by 600 duron lol

PS, do you have ANY evidence to prove your theory....... start searching ?? The article at toms was "without a heatsink", and proved nothing about fan malfunction.
Also, A duron 800 doesnt run nearly as hot as a 1400 tbird.

Not really. I thought AMD cpus don't have that thermal diode thingy?
Does it have anything to do with it?

Morgan/Palomino cores do, the original Duron (Spitfire core) and Thunderbird do not.

With what? The myth that they'll burn themselves up? LOL.

The choice is pretty easy. You could pair a cheap Duron (750 OEM is as low as I would go, personally) with K7S5A and PC133 for a real budget rig. It'll blow the pants off that Celery 850 on i815.

Why do people in here take CPU choices personal..
All I want to know is whether CPU will burn if fan fails..or not
I know duron+DDR is faster.. No need to remind me of it.
