Speakers squeal loudly on shutdown

I was wondering if anyone knew what might be causing this problem and a possible fix to it.
I have creative 5.1 surround speakers and a Creative Live 5.1 card. Not every time, but it seems like every other time I shut down my computer I hear a loud high pitched squeal. This is especially annoying considering I like to fall asleep listening to music and am awoken by an ear splitting squeal. I had the card in another computer and this never occured up until I got the newest drivers for the card. I moved the card to the new comp, and it still squeals. Unfortunately, I cant just roll back the drivers because otherwise I lose sound support for Half Life 2. Am I up a creek here for listening to music before I crash, or does anyone know of a possible workaround?

erm.. either turn off auto shut down/power down on your computer or turn off your speakers before going to bed, sorry I couldnt be more helpful, let this serve as a bump.

Turn off Auto Shutdown on your comp <or> turn it off yourself before you go to bed. You can also turn off your speakers before bed. Speakers off = no sound 🙂
