she emailed me last night that listening through the 8600 speakers just doesn't cut it for her. so i'm looking for suggestions on what to get her to hook into the audio jack or usb on her inspiron 8600. would consider good (not expensive) speakers with or without a sub...price point $50-100...2 or 2.1 setups only please.

thanks!!

Some suggestions:

Logitech x-230s
Logitech z-3s
Logitech z-2300s
Klipsch 2.0
There are some Altec Lansing sets out there along with Creative that some people really like too.

If she wants something that's loud and has boomy bass, check out the Logitech line.

thanks, and sorry for the duplicate thread! i'm in a panic trying to get everything for her that we didn't think of before bringing her down to school this past weekend.... i think the x-230's for $42 shipped (buy.com) are the ticket!

I just picked up a pair of Logitech Z3's for 49.99 (55ish after taxes):

If you have a local fry's, buy it there instead, it's the same price, and tax is lower than shipping.

I'm in a college apartment setting, and these are working great. They're no ProMedia's, but they fit well in my cramped room, and aren't loud enough that I get noise citations. Don't bother with anything higher than a 2.1 system for college, she'll probably run it at 1/3 volume most of the time, or use headphones.
