Speakers: Comparison

In comparison, which would you prefer in a 13x20 room with slate tile?

Klipsch Reference RC-52 Center Channel

vs

Infinity Primus PC350 Center Channel

And also for the sub:

Klipsch Reference RW-10d Sub-Woofer

vs

Infinity Primus PS-10 Sub-Woofer

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Without going into too much detail.

Klipsch for both, i like em bright. Are you getting the same L&R speakers to match the center?

In the home theater room, it's two "in-wall" Klipsch Reference 1650-w's as the front speakers and Klipsch Reference 1650-c's as the surround (in ceiling). So I guess it would be beneficial to keep the same model/brand going for the whole setup, eh?

I just have a complete Infinity Primus 5.1 speaker system as well still in boxes (P362's, P142's, PS-10 and the PC350). I suppose that could go in the new bedroom.....

How much are you paying for the Reference 10 sub? Amazon shows about $550. For that much money an Internet Direct sub is going to thouroghly destroy it.

Hsu, SVS, Av123, Outlaw, ect will all offer much better performance for similar, if not less money.

It doesn't matter if the surrounds and the sub match the mains, but it is important that the center does. It's also not sufficient just to get a center of the same brand, but you'll want one from the same product line so that they'll be timbre-matched. You want your front sound stage to blend well together, and this won't happen if your mains are brighter than your center. Just as an example, my center (Polk CSi25) uses the same woofers and tweeter as my mains (Polk R50), so there's no question of whether they match.

My home came pre-installed with these speakers (home theater)....as well as 3 zones throughout the house with pairs of 1650-c's in the foeyer, kitchen and master bedroom

The subs won't be pre-installed though. You can match any sub with those systems. A much better sub for the money.

Unless you aren't buying a sub - but choosing which one to use.

Looking at the stats of these two subs, I'd give the edge to the Klipsch. It has a slightly bigger cabinet, and maybe a touch more powerful amp (I'm more confident in the cabinet size spec than amp power ratings). Bigger means potentially lower tuning, and for home theater use you want your sub to go as low as possible. For the record, the Infinity claims it is down 3db at 27hz - and the Klipsch at 28hz. The Klipsch apparently rolls off at 120, and the Infinity at 150. I'm more inclined to think the Klipsch may have the slight edge for HT use. Since you'll be running your crossover at 80hz max - it really doesn't matter what either sub does above 80.

That said - I had a sub that published itself as rolling off at about 24hz - but for the life of me I could not get a signal out of it until 27hz. Moving to an ID sub (the MFW-15 by AV123) - I can attest wholeheartedly that the material in movies playing below 25hz is VERY IMPORTANT. I am now down to 17hz in-room - and seems to have added a whole new dimension to the experience.

You won't find many home theater enthusiasts raving about a subwoofer that rolls off above 20hz. In my experience - the "wow" factor kicks in at 20hz.

Next time I buy a sub - I'll shoot for sub-15hz output 🙂 Seaton Submersive - I'm lookin' at you!

At 550$, there are much better subwoofers for the money. I'm thinking SVS, HSU, eD, AV123, epic, etc.

For the klipsch system, id go with the klipsch center if it is a WMTW design, otherwise, no center.

My vote is for the SVS, holy hell does it rock.
