speaker recommendation

I currently use a set of Creative T2900 2.1 speakers for my video editing machine, and I love them. The wired remote with aux input is great (I share the speakers that way between 2 machines). I'm looking to upgrade to 5.1 though for some upcoming projects... so what speakers would you recommend in the sub-$100 range? Since I like the T2900, I'm considering the T5400, T5900, T7700, and T7900 speakers from Creative, but what else should I look at?

Obviously I'm not a professional editor here, so I want decent and cheap, not some crazy expensive monitors 🙂

I currently own an Altec 251 set that sounds great, however I do believe that Altec may be discontinuing these speakers.

Another great set for me has been the Logitech Z640 set... I have a friend who owns a set and they really do sound great.

Only downside I believe is that they both have their controls located on a speaker and don't come with a wired remote...

I myself don't know too much about speakers and stuff, but I know for sure that these 2 sets are under $100 and sound really great for their prices.

The T5400 remote doesn't have a line-in on it, though you can buy one that does. The T5900 is the same as the T5400 and the T7900 is the same as the T7700, except that one of the front speakers is sideways for the center channel. I had the T5400 before I upgraded to the Megaworks 550 and they would distort quite easily. Eventually the right channel stopped working, but maybe I just got a bad set.

These are out of your price range but if you spend a bit more the Logitech Z-5300's are a good deal for quality speakers.

I agree 100%. Great 5.1 speakers for the price.
