I just bought the Creative Inspire 5300 the other day

why doesn't the centre speaker work!?

I've tried it with music (mp3s), Q3, etc..... don't tell me you can only use the centre speaker with 5.1 enabled movies? (i haven't tried yet).. if so i would've stuck to my old 4.1 speakers!?

I have already selected '5.1' in my speaker configuration in 'AudioHQ' - there is just no sound coming out of it!?!?! just a bit of static.. when i go to 'AudioHQ' options I can test all the 5 speakers and they each seem to be ok, ie. they all say 'front left'... 'rear left'.. 'centre channel'... etc..

whats going on!!??
 
mp3s weren't encoded in a 5.1 format (at least not currently), so you won't get sound from your center speaker unless something takes the stereo stream and sends info to the center speaker (like a dolby digital decoder with pro-logic).
