speaker lost sound

I have a pair of Altec 880s that i got from an old dell system hooked up to my computer and they've worked well for years. Today the right speaker decided to stop playing sound for no apparent reason. I'm using an nforce mobo with onboard sound under win2k (and its worked fine for months). I only get sound from the left speaker and the slight buzzing thats always there from the right speaker when i turn the volume up high. The right speaker has the volume controls and all that on it, however, and all of the controls still work fine, so all the wiring is ok and its connected to the sub because i can control volume and get buzzing sounds when the volume is cranked. Does anyone know what might be wrong and why the speaker suddenly stopped making sound? thanks.

Poncherelli: Plug some headphones into the line-out on the mobo and listen for both channels. Does your line-out connect to your sub and then high-passed to the sats? Have you jiggled the wires? Disconnect and reconnect all the line level connections.

headphones get both channels, i've jiggled wires, its weird because the right speaker still makes the feedback noise at higher volume levels and all the controls on it work as well.

its works now, thanks for the help, apparently there was some dust on the jack coming out of the computer and it came out when i took the headphones out, weird that it got in there all of a sudden, buts its all good now. thanks again.
