Any speaker which don't have this? Or is it a sound card thing? I've always had some slight hiss, of course I only notice when nothing playing but I don't like it so I'm forced to turn off speakers.

Need remedy..

My mine speaker is Altec Lansing 601 but all do this, Sound card is chaintech with via envy chipset

i think it always comes from the source of the audio in the first place...not the speakers fault.

so it could be the sound card, or it could be the amplifier, it could even be the cables, cheap one especially, ie interference

see if u can borrow an audigy 2 or something, i have one, and some logitech Z-3's and i dont get any hiss even on full volume

Are you 100% positive those logictechs make no noise. Go plug them in, turn them on, half volume, at 3am in dead of night with comp off and tell me please. I'll get some if true.

Well they even hiss when comp is off.

If they hiss even when the computer is off, it's the audio amp. Can't be anything inside the computer, because there is no input. I've been using high end audio equipment for years, and a cheap amp will always hiss, and or hum, even at a low volume.

My logitechs hiss but they are using onboard SS audio off of a cheap realtek DAC. So its to be expected.

As for with my computer off, jeez i haven't bothered to check. Ill check and report back.

My Cambridge MegaWorks have a very slight hiss that can be heard only when there is nothing playing and there isn't much else making noise in the room. I usually just turn the speakers on standby mode, but it's convenient with these speakers since I have the remote just left of my keyboard.

I have a audigy 2 zs with logitech 2-5300 speakers and when there on ther normal volume setting I can hear a hissing noise only if I put my ear right up to the speakers. If I turn the speakers up past a certain volume level, which would blow out the speakers most likely, then I can hear a hiss were I normally sit. I have heard that part of this has to due with the speakers drawing electricity directly from the wall because the current fluctuates. Thats why when you buy a high end audio system you usually buy a monster cable power box, have no clue what there really called, which keeps the current steady and filters the current allowing no interference. I have heard the diffrence with sound systems that have one and others that dont and you can tell.

^ indeeed. Disconnect the PC from the amp/pod/kit to isolate. Can rule out any additional noise from PC by plugging headphones directly into PC. In any case, mute all analog inputs not in use from the mixer. But chances are the primary culprit is the el-cheapo amp of the "PC speakers".

try switching plugs, possibly a ground fault. keep speakers on different plug (circut) than comp/monitor/other devices)

The only way to have absolutely no audible hiss would to be to run an audiophile quality amp. Even then, any sound card will still put out harmonic distortion whenever the computer is on.

I just tried this and the hiss in my speakers is barely audible even with my ears right next to them.

how about a pair of mackie studio monitor speakers.

Well i was running of integrated audio for a while, their bad hissing. I bought a Audigy 2 ZS and the sound was reduced 95%. I can only hear it literally with my ear next to it.

Go buy a sound card.

Any suggestions? low power..

ANY SC? How about some of those Maudios? ::SIGH:: this sucks

Speakers themselves don't hiss w/o input. Even a cheap pair of speakers don't hiss. It's the amplifying any minute electrical "hum" if you will, that causes harmonic distortion.

See this is what happens when you make your comp silent🙁 Always more money finding and fixing the next noise source.

First I got water to fix CPU CASE AND GPU noise.. with passive rads it's silent now.

Next PSU fan made noise so I took it out.

Next I noticed HD's making noise so I got some enclosers which are silent (smartdrive 2002)

now speakers hum and hissss (correction: impure amp making speakers hiss)

The best quality I've found in computer speakers is Klipsch. I'm currently using the v.2-400 by Klipsch on a SB Audigy2 ZS. I can't hear any audible hum from them with the computer on (I hear fans) But, I'm not water cooled yet.

The sub doesn't hum at all, even with the volume cranked.

Unless I mute the sound card, I still hear some hiss from the satellites though.

I am thinking about just running a amp since I'm satisfied with Altec lansing SQ. Any suggestions on one with spdif and 5 channel with no noise? Or is analog the best input?

What sound card do you have, exactly? If it's the Chaintech AV-710 (a guess based on your description), is it set to "High Quality" stereo mode in the drivers? If not, that could be your problem right there... I wouldn't be surprised if the low-quality VT1616 DAC it uses when not in High Quality mode was adding a little more noise than you'd like to the signal.

Well, that is subjective to your own perception. Example: I may like a monitor that you hate.

I would suggest going to an audiophile store, and listening to them.

Sorry, someone keeps distracting me here. 😉
