I have two Labtec 2.1 speaker sets (LCS-2414) hooked up to a Audigy 2 card i.e. a "4.2" system. I am pretty happy with the sound, but would like to use a separate centre speaker. So to my question, should I get another 2.1 speaker system, 2 speaker system or anything else. Assuming these Labtec sets are free, I don't want to get a whole new speaker system.

Any help appreciated.

a new 2.1 would be pretty "getto" but it should work, it might be a bitch balancing the volumes

oh and wanna hook me up with these "free" speakers :p

Well, when I bought a PC from NEC (UK) back in 2000 they chucked in a free 3yr onsite warranty. Since thats nearly about to expire and they're pretty flexible about handing these sets out to "valued" customers, I was thinking they were worth calling again.

So I could get a 2.1 or downgrade and get a 2.

I don't see how it would work.... all speaker mixing is gernerally done thru the amp in the back of the subwoofer, no? If your sub is only setup for 2.1, then I don't see why it would have extra inputs on the back of it. You can pick up a decent set of Creative speakers (5.1) for under $100.

No, but the sound card has extra inputs at the back of it. :)

The Creative ones cost money and these are in effect free!

i don't see how it works either. i mean it'll give you a louder volume but i don't see how it'll give you the surround effects of a 5.1 set, which is the point of having 5 speakers!
