Is it possible to purchase the SPDIF Interface seperately? I already have the motherboad and would rather get this than have to get a sound card.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm wondering the same....

BUMP (and no replies in a month)

I've got a pioneer surround sound receiver with
"5.1 dolby digital input" (both rca and optical)
but NO mention of "S/PDIF". Is this the same thing,
or at least compatible.

I could try to run an RCA jack from the receiver to the
2 pins on the P4S333 (spdif out and gnd), and see what
happens.

You'd think asus would want to get these adapter boards
out there, since they no doubt carry a higher markup
than the MB's (%-wise, at least)

:(

Actually, the on-board sound is basically the same as the Hercules card you spotted at newegg.
There is a 6-pin (I think) header on the maiboard with the s/pdif outpiut and input. Asus sells as an option/asccessory, an adapter to bring those connections out to a rear panel/bracket (along with the optical conversion). Unfortunately, no one seems to carry this accessory, so AMDTechGeek and I are out of luck.
