Sparta vs Mars Volta

I prefer Sparta myself. For those that don't know, they are bands and each contain members of the now defunct band, At the Drive In.

Definately Sparta... Mars Volta sucks.

Sparta took everything that's good from drive-in, and left out all the crap that went to mars volta. After seeing both sparta and drive-in live, sparta is waaaaayy better.

I agree. I don't mind Mars Volta, but I find it quite surprising that they have a much bigger fan base than Sparta.

S P A R T A. Too bad radio stations in north of the border won't play anything by sparta, mars volta or at the drive in.

Hell, radio stations around here don't play anything by any of em. I think I heard one armed scissor once when it first came out, but thats about it.

sparta is B O R I N G. i saw them live and they were asleep up there. in contrast, mars volta tore the place up. mars volta is musically, tonally, and dynamically more interesting than sparta, and the songs are just stronger. that said, the mars volta are the most pretentious band in the universe. they make tool look a bunch silly goofballs. talk about rock-star ego. i can't stand listening to them just because they are so full of themselves. but i don't listening to sparta either, because they're so dull.

i think neither band is as good as at the drive in, although i didn't think they were super great, either. the blood brothers do what ATDI did, but they do it a lot better (even produced by the same guy).

from the songs i've heard from sparta, i voted for Mars volta. Their cd is awesome. I would rate their concert so so. It started to get long when they draged their 12 minute song into a 25 minute song.
