Spam

Talking about the "food" of course: http://www.appscout.com/images/spam%20boy.jpg

I think I tried it once when I was a little kid and hated it. The texture was just disgusting from what I recall, but it appears to still be going strong.

I'm interested to know if anyone here eats it/ate it/knows someone who eats it.

KT

I ate it yesterday. Cold spam is pretty gross, but if you fry it (cook in a skillet with only a little bit of oil since fat will render out as you cook it), it's pretty good. I had it in a sandwich with cheese and an egg over easy. Spam is insanely salty though, so if you do eat it get the reduced sodium which is still pretty salty.

We group in pretty poor household. Spam was a treat.

My Mom would mix up BBQ sauce and some ketchup, bake it, and then we'd have "BBQ Spammiches".

Not so sure I could willingly go for it now, but never had a problem as a kid.

those hawaiians sure know how to use spam

Whoa, wtf. Have you actually tried that?

KT

hell yes

lots of bomb hawaiian restaurants in SoCal

good spam musubi is fantastic (ie good rice, nori, possibly sauce depending on restaurant)

Crazy. Not available in my area I'm pretty sure otherwise I'd go try it.

It's pretty decent stuff, but I don't eat it often. I have however been to the SPAM museum in Austin, MN

Let me tell you about absolute ownage:

1. Make fresh white rice.
2. Heat up skillet to HIGH with generous amount of vegetable oil
3. Slice Spam thinly (not too thin, about 1/8")
4. Pan fry those fuckers until outside turns beautifull crispy and scarred

Serve with rice. Good stuff. Add kimchi on the side if you'd like.

AWESOME

I obviously can't vouch for it but you might want to hit this place up

I'll ask my friend in Vancouver if he knows of any HI shops

The only time I had it, it was just straight out of the can, sliced and placed in-between white bread with some mustard. It was disgusting and I never let my Uncle make me lunch again.

I guess I need to try it froed.

Spam isn't bad stuff, but that sounds too damn salty.

But yeah, Spam is best fried almost crispy.

Spam fried in a skillet, on a toasted bagel with cream cheese = YUM
I only have it a few times per year, though.

There's not really a good poll option for me.

yeah that's pretty disgusting. fried spam + rice isn't bad

Spam is nasty shit. I never did understand why so many people, ESPECIALLY Hawaiians, love it so. Don't disparage Spam to a Hawaiian...you'll likely get beat down for speaking against one of Gawd's gifts to man...<shudders>
