Well, I've returned from my ten day trip to Spain. It was my first time overseas and it was an amazing experience. I saw a lot of really cool things and learned a lot about foreign cultures and traveling abroad.

I went to several cities/towns during my trip. I went to Madrid, Seville, Ecija, Granada, Cordoba, Toledo, and Solobreña. I really like all of the places I visited but Toledo and Solobreña were my favorites. Madrid was nice, but a little too big and commercial for my tastes. Toledo was just a cool-looking medieval European town with some really cool architecture. Solobreña was an awesome little coastal town in the south of Spain in the Mediterranean where the temperature was about 80F the day I was there.

I also enjoyed the experience of interacting with a totally different culture. It really helped that I know basic conversational Spanish, but just experiencing the people, food and society was awesome. I also learned that while most of the Spanish people are very nice, polite and helpful, there are others who generally dislike Americans. The food wasn't my favorite, but I did find that I really liked Paella. I also found a lot of tasty miscellaneous food items that I wish I could have brought back to the US with me, namely Coke (which happens to taste better when made with sugar cane IMO).

Customs was a joke. A little fun fact: If you don't declare it and you don't act suspicious, I can almost guarantee that no one will bother you.

That's it for now. I took about 480 pictures on my trip, so once I sort through and resize them, I'll post some up in case anyone wants to see.

Oh, and anyone who's ever been to Spain can feel free to chime in as well. :)

Update: Uploaded some pics to Flickr. Check them out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/balexandro/sets/72157594574206590/

Spain is a fantastic place to visit!

The food is widely considered the best in Europe these days. The women are HOT!

The late night partying from teenagers to old-timers is legendary.

I don't know how they're productive....even with the siesta.

Here is a repost of my post here a while back.

Man, I never knew how nice we have it in America. I have been living in Madrid and Sevilla for the past week. Things that are not readily available here are

Air conditioners
cars
internet

It gets so hot here at night I sleep in my sweat. I sweat so much now I rarely have to pee. Some of the roads I have to walk on are around 8 feet wide with no sidewalks and cars drive right by and you have to be careful or you can get hit. The buildings here are old and falling apart and there is trash everywhere. I never knew that there was also a huge influx of central and south American immigrants that live here. I have gotten to use the computer twice in the last week. I have 15 minutes on the computer because it is almost siesta here at the school and they kick us out at 3pm until 5pm. The walks are about 1 hour each way, so I get about 4 hours of walking each day.

I wont be able to respond if anyone has any questions until tommorow if I get a chance to use the computers again because siesta is soon. I was surprised at how much reconstruction is going on in the city. Like 15% of the buildings are under renovation.

The funniest thing is the way the Spanish men look at women. They are so blatant when they stare and like 90% of the men are starers. They also honk and yell at all the hot women that are around. One of my classmates here got her crotched grabbed in Madrid. When the Sevillan soccer team won their national championship the city went crazy.

I am getting used to life without telephones, radios, air conditioners, hot water sometimes and computers. Hope you all are enjoying it back in America. I only have 4 more weeks here.

On a side note, we went to Portugal and the country is beautiful. I have noticed that many Spaniards do not speak English at all. There seems to be a much higher percentage of English speakers in Portugal compared to Spain.

Edit hmm there is no colon key on this keyboard, anyway it doesnt get dark here to almost 11Pm. for some reason Spain is ahead of London on the timezone but I am pretty sure they are located west of London.

The partying doesnt even start til like 1 or 2 AM and the clubs stay open until like 7am lol.

I did end up enjoying my time in Spain and miss it.

I haven't been to Spain, but Spaniards tend to speak loudly when in groups? And the language sounds so harsh..and it's a hundred degrees C all the time in Spain? (I'm Swedish)

I plan on going from the UK to Spain (those budget flights are really cheap - maybe about <$70)

However, I can only visit one city in Spain - Barcelona, Madrid, or Valencia?

What do you guys recommend? I hear Valencia is really nice..

Thanks!!

Im going to Spain this summer for 38 days. From mid June to the end of July.

Best part of it all Financial Aid is covering almost everything. Best part of it all is classes are only 8am-12pm M-F, for two semesters worth of Spanish.

Ill mainly be in Seville, but there will be trips to Madrid and Granada.
