SPAIN - Has anyone lived there?

Madrid? That's where the building burned.

A building made out of steel.

The same kind of steel that was in the world trade center.

Yet that building DID NOT collapse.

The WTC? It collapsed, even building 7 collapsed.

Very interesting.

You should check that out while you are in Madrid.

I lived in seville for a month. Stores close early afternoon and opens up again later in the day, and everyone smokes.

I think Spain is a very open and inviting country; as long as you aren't black or east Asian.

I am hoping to find someone who has lived there for a while, at least 6 months. I am trying to find out whether the salary I am offered will help me maintain my standard of living 🙂

Totally. I spent 2 days in Madrid in June and befriended more people than the 6 months I spent in Germany 🙂

Explain to me then why my mother (born in Spain) married a black guy then? Twice...

I am going to Valencia again in March, but I've been everywhere there.

I was in Madrid for 5 days a couple months ago. I loved that city. I could live there I think, or Barcelona. People are great!

Your mother doesn't represent all of Spain? Just because a few gay men got married here in the United States, it doesn't mean that we're all that accepting of gays.

By the way, I have no idea about the racial situation in Spain. I'm just pointing out your anecdotal evidence doesn't disprove what RKS said in any way.

If you don't smoke, you might want to start now so that you'll be acclimated when you get there.

I do smoke. No problem there.

Do you have any idea about salaries in Spain? Or any chance you can ask someone who may know? 🙂 Thanks.

No but I can ask my mother and my 15 aunt/uncles there (They are Roman catholic!). What job are you trying to look into?

Financial controller & planner in Madrid. I was wondering if ?2,000/mo. would be ok for a single, 24 year old guy? I was wondering what the average rent is in Madrid for studios and 1 bedroom apartments 🙂 Thanks.

I am from Korea and used to live in Sevilla and had no issues with racism at all there.

Also Madrid is a very diverse city. There are a lot of Central/South Americans, Africans and eastern Asians, mostly Chinese that live there.

I stayed in Madrid for about 5 days for a conference. Some of the nicest people I've ever met, I didn't speak a lick of Spanish either. Subway is great for getting around.

Nope. It's a global company so the main business language is English.

Ooh, I'd definitely learn Spanish if you're planning on living there. Most Spaniards don't speak English.

Do you like ham at least? 😉

If you are asking on religious grounds, I am an atheist, so I have no problem with it but I prefer fish/steak to ham/chicken.
