Spain bans skinny models

BTW, I say good for them. If they can turn away fatties, I say turn away the twiggies too.

So they're worried about people being too skinny while the media says that we're in the middle of a global obesity pandemic. Hmm...

The world?s first ban on overly thin models at a top-level fashion show in Madrid has caused outrage among modeling agencies

Big deal... whos scared of a bunch of 90 lb girls?

the thing you need to realize is that RUNWAY models are different from print/TV models.

They are not the normal "beautiful"... they are there to have thin lean bodies to show guests at the fashion shows how the clothes lay on a human. They are expected to be walking maniquins... thats it.

I think that is a GREAT thing that they are doing that because a lot of clothes are fitted for girls with no curves top or bottom

i think mannequins are thicker than these girls are. you're right they aren't the normal beautiful, they aren't beautiful at all. how can they show off how the clothes lay on a human when they look like walking skeletons? the normal human body does not look like that.

I am sorry to say this and do not want to offend anyone, but from the few folks i have spoken with in the fashion industry.. they say no one wants to see "heavy" girls walk down a runway. I think i am fairly thin and i look like a heffer next to most runway models. Its just beacause they (designers) want people to focus on the clothes. not the models.

what do they define as "heavy"? 100 lbs? i'm not saying you need women like rosie o'donnell, but that stick thin, ribs showing, ethiopian starved to death skeleton look is totally disgusting.

The designers, I think, tend to forget the fact that the clothes are to be worn by actual human beings.

See, most of the time, that is not correct. The big names in fashion usually design clothes (Ready-to-wear or Haute Coture) for 1% of people. Most cannot afford a button from these designers and just have most clothes at runway shows for "show". not really to wear. To those that CAN afford them... well, they are usually celebs and socialites that are stick thin anyways.

If you notice, brands/stores that actually have clothes that many folks can buy, they have more "normal" looking models.
