Space X launch tonight 5/15 - Global Xpress Broadband satellite 7:15 EDT

should be historic as one of the last SpaceX launches without a recovery attempt

more seriously, this is where we start to see if they can maintain a high cadence. significant delays would be bad and failures would be catastrophic. they need to keep pumping out these launches without incident

Be nice if they could get the ping on Sat internet so I can move out into the boonies and play EQ WoT or the like.

That won't happen with this, although SpaceX is developing a LEO Internet system. Satellites out at GEO have a speed-of-light limitation.

A LEO internet system would be pretty neat. You would need a ground mount dish that can home in on the sats though as they'd move. Idealy you'd have two dishes so you don't lose connectivity durring hand off.

No, a dish doesn't make sense with so many satellites moving so fast. In the past phones have used simple omnidirectional antennas. Now a phased array might make more sense.

apparently this rocket has an improved fuel loading system allowing the LOX to be loaded later meaning it was colder at launch, giving them better performance

combined with the no recovery hardware, it was the fastest launch yet

That would work for receive but what about transmit? I imagine you'd need a prety powerful transmitter if you want to go omni.

Thought this was a cool pic, amazing the fairing does not get ripped off or the satellite get toppled off. But the've had decades to perfect this.
