I spend a lot of time thinking about general relativity and quantum mechanics. I have no idea why, I'm not a physicist. It just bugs me. I had a random thought on my way into work this morning. Anyway, we all know from Einstein's theory of general relativity that space-time is a single entity. The paradox, of course, being that all of space seems to exist at the present moment, but all of time does not. It seems to be created moment by moment as entropy increases (or perhaps entropy increases because we measure time in that direction).

Either way, the reigning concept seems to be that perhaps all of time does exist and we are simply passing through it. Well, why not the converse? Maybe all of space does not exist at the present time. Maybe it is space that is being created/expanded and time/entropy is simply the measure of that creation/expansion. This may explain why time slows down around massive objects - space expands more slowly in their proximity due to the influence of gravity. I don't know. I'm sure some physicist here has an excellent explanation why that can't work. I've never heard it said before, though.

Remember it's puff, puff, pass. j/k Relativity is cool to think about.

Didn't you see Intersteller? It's all about love and sending signals from the future to the past using light and dust and crap like that.

The whole point of spacetime is that space and time are the same thing, and it is expanding. In essence time is a measurement of space, just like width and height.

Space-time exists like latitude and longitude exist. It's a coordinate system useful for labeling things in our experience, but having no material reality itself.

So it isn't time that exists all at once, but the actual physical realities that exist simultaneously along a certain continuum we call the time dimension.

The biological structures of our senses necessarily focus and synchronize our perceptions in a way that reinforces the classical "non-relativistic" sense of linear, sequential time. Basically, time seems linear because our nerve impulses must leap across our synapses.

In reality, a field of infinite probabilities exists at once, with certain definite realities coming into and out of our focus according to individual and collective choices and actions.

All I know about space time and relatively is that when you are doing a nice blonde cheerleader it seems like 5 seconds.

Or suppose you're trying to get from point A to point B

First you must move half way between A and B ...and then must go the remaining half to B

To go to the remaining half - you must move half way again.

This remaining half thing can repeat for infinity - so all motion is just an illusion.

..so must as well just kick back on the couch and fire up another one :)

Or you could just go the whole way the first time. Hell, its even possible to go all the way past things if you're not careful. I do it all the time when I'm driving and looking for a particular side street. Somehow it's always the one I just saw as I was going by.

You couldn't have gone the full way the first time - without going halfway before it.

but before you reached the half way point- you had to go half way before reaching it ...ya da ya da ya da.

ie: You'll never get out of your own neighborhood

Or you could just light up another one and call it a day. :D
