Space Shuttle Enterprise from 1979

My Dad found this pic that my Uncle took on August 12th, 1979 when the Enterprise was on a stop over at Tulsa International Airport. He was in the Air National Guard at the time and his unit was part of the security detail. Thought I would scan it in and share with everyone.

Its sad to see how much NASA and America have fallen over the years. Who'd have thought that thirty years from the time that picture was taken, NASA's primary mission would be coddling muslim nations. Pathetic. Everyone knows this.

Keep the political shit out of the thread or leave.

Need to update this one. We've all read it. By the way, NASA doesn't use Apples.

hmm i wonder, are the attachments between the shuttle and the 747 designed for tension or compression? i would imagine compression since i don't think the shuttle is really much of a lifting body especially at the low speed of the 747's cruise Mach..

Awesome! I bet it feels sorta strange to be flying with an extra 2,000 tons on top of your aircraft.

That's wicked sick.

Why is the flag mirrored though?

nm I looked it up on google..

The flag on US military uniforms is worn on the right shoulder. The "reverse" signifies that the flag is moving forward in the wind. An easy way to remember this are the following phrases: "Always push forward" or "Always push ahead".

I saw it when it got here to KSC; It was very impressive. My friend's father worked for Johnson Controls, and was cool enough to remember me when getting passes for it.

It was also awesome to see an orbiter fly in that way, after it would have to land in Cali.

He's right. Fuck the fucking muslim nations and their fucking terrorist bullshit. Rebuilding nations other than our own just sends the wrong message. Mess with the US and there is profit in it for you. How stupid and pathetic. Everyone knows this. Except apparently you.

This nation should spend on exploration, not destruction. Cut the Pentagon budget in half and send those fucking retarded con artists to school learning science or deport them to whatever 3rd world shithead nation their ancestors came from.

Coffee.....apparently you've had too much of it this morning.

I saw it fly low and slow over BYU - Provo (Utah) when I was a freshman (1995-96). Definitely an odd sight seeing a 747 piggy-backing the SPACE SHUTTLE as it slowly flies by...Flew pretty low, right over campus and up the Valley to SLC airport...was pretty cool.
