Yes yes, it's "badass"...a 720p (in this day and age?) video of a guy lipsyncing, some great shots of Earth, neither of which I can't already find on Youtube.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for space exploration, science, riding around in pressurized cans of air above the atmosphere...but WTF? if you've got the balls to ride up into space...sing the damn song yourself.

Like I said, your tax dollars at work.

You need to have you're head checked out

Every music video has lip syncing. That's his recorded voice anyway

Sheesh, quite the buzzkill here. He sang the song, of course you "lipsync" it for the video.

The quality of the Bowie cover is surprisingly good, and the space station had been specifically set up to allow him to record. Hadfield plays an acoustic guitar from Canada’s Larrivée Parlor, which has an in-haul pickup plugged into a laptop running Quark. A number of free-standing mics are plugged into a digital camera to provide the visual and acoustics.

Also, remember, it's an International Space Station. It's not just America paying for it. On top of which, the budget for space exploration is a drop in the budget compared to everything else. He is literally coming back to Earth tomorrow, I think he deserves whatever it cost to produce this.

Edit: Video of him explaining playing music in space.

Thousands of people die of starvation and this looser decides to make a lame music video in space and spend our money that could have been used to spare some people pain and suffering.
We should stop sending people to space.

I doubt thousands of Canadians die of starvation. Also I highly doubt much if any tax money went toward the production of this video.

Of all the things to complain about your tax dollars being spent on, this isn't one of them, and he's not even American.

Better yet since he's worried about tax dollars he should be sent on a one-way trip to the surface of the sun, then we could find out how close a person gets before the space capsule becomes a crock-pot, and we could all gaze in awe as his body melts into oblivion..

And why in the hell is the movie only 720p? I understand most people need song and dance (or in this case, floating) to get interested in astronomy and science, but come on. The dude lipsyncing Bowie deserves more lines of resolution.

Stuff like space exploration results in the progression of human society which will ultimately cause more improvement to the world than if we spent the money solving current problems like hunger.

You do realize it wasn't Bowies voice used in the video and that they changed the lyrics to suit the ISS and Soyuz right?

amazing. makes it more real considering you can see the loneliness and seclusion not only in the beautiful settings but in his eyes.

not one suicide in space.....Think about that!

Thousands of people die of starvation and

only they have the capability to stop it.

I might argue, that it's not bad for mankind, that a few of us die of starvation, considering the resources the rest of us use to live. Less humans is better.

Anyway, great video. It really puts an atmosphere to LEO-field trips.

How do you think Bowie must feel about this? I mean the dude wrote an epic song about a dude in space and now a guy who is actually in space is doing an epic cover of his epic song. Awesome.

Came expecting pictures/video of something recorded on the ISS that was odd, instead got a music video. Was not disappointed.

Billions of Canadian money, American, EU money , years of building this worthless tin can and what we get for it after all this time, a guy wasting his time playing a guitar that probably cost $2 000 000 to send up there. Hadfield should be ashamed of himself all the agencies involved in the space station should be ashamed.

This isn't even space exploration like some of you mentioned it's just a hunk of metal orbiting the earth and costing billions. If they spend that money on rovers and send them to planets that would be space exploration. The ISS is just a giant jobs program.

You know, he's taken seriously the words:

and there's nothing I can do..."

They can't just sleep 8 hours and do experiements for 16 hours everyday without having a little fun. Some people stay in the space station for extended periods of time. There's probably only so much to do for entertainment... I have no problem with them doing this, even if they did use our tax dollars to fund it. This is the type of light hearted video that might make kids think of science as both fun and amazing, which may inspire the next great mind.
