Actually it's pretty amazing how little equipment is required for "mission control" these days compared to NASA in the 1960's.
It is sorta messy but on the other hand as mentioned you could break the whole thing down in an hour!
IMO SpaceX and the other 3rd Parties coming in is really throwing a wrench in all of this.
The basic dialogue is this:
NASA: OMG, you need at least 5 years and half your budget to evaluate everything before actually doing a successful launch
SpaceX: Naw....
NASA: How the hell do you expect to accomplish this shit with launching and then doing an automated landing of the rocket to then re-use it?
SpaceX: Watch me Bro...
Then they magically do it.
Not to say that they are mythical creatures that are exorbitantly smart. The wife works with them and calls them retarded all the time and can't stand being forced to work with them

It's almost like... necessary evil, maybe? I dunno.
