Space between video card an PCI Card

I just setup a new I7 system using the Asus P6t motherboard. I installed a EVGA GTX 280 in the blue PCI Express slot and PCI Parallel/Serial adapter card. I am concerned that there is not enough space between the video card (the gap is really small). Does the bottom of the card usually get really hot?

The manual states that for single card setups you should use the first slot for best performance, but can I place the card in the second PCI express slot that is x16?
