DS9 had a good one at the very end, and also had a good one when the Klingons attacked the station.

First Contact was good.

BSG had a few.

Babylon 5 had some really good ones too.

Star Wars...

One thing I really liked about Babylon 5 is how they did the motion of the ships.

They would thrust forward, and keep that motion while spinning around with thrusters which allowed them to fire on an object while passing by it. The show had a bit more realistic view of flying in space.

Star Trek - everything was so 2D even in space - it's like they could only fly on a single plane most of the time. They rarely left that plane except in shuttles to go to planets and things.

same goes for BSG. the vipers can glide with the inertia that they obtain and use there pitch thrusters to face backward while still going in the original direction.

I forget which season it was in, but when the Galactica appeared above New Caprica and fell while launching Vipers, and then blinked out right before hitting the ground. Very cool!

Cloaked ships are quite easy to find and hit, if you don't bother with all this "targeting lock" BS.

you forget something invisible, puts out almost no traceable signature, how are you going to see it?

And your answer is wrong, becuase space is very big.

I doubt ships are less then 10 km apart when those fighting scene goes on.

As for space fights, i like anime. 😛
But if we had to pick a non anime, probably star trek series.
I've shot at cloaked ships in games. You look through the viewscreen, and fire in the direction of the cloaked thing. It's not too tough.
Once they did that "0-axis phaser spread" and found the Scimitar, well, easy solution - turn the holodeck into a giant 360° viewscreen, and go in there to direct weapons fire. Set the phasers for low-yield so they can fire nearly continuously, and just keep hitting the cloaked ship with phaser fire, and use that to easily "see" it for torpedo targeting.

My favorite TV show space battles were in Babylon 5.

Overall I'd have to go with Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan even though its a movie.

I like the first few moments of Star Wars Episode 3 where the 2 JSF's go spinning off the end of their cruiser, and all you can see is this massive fray down below. In to it they go and you see all kinds of crazy stuff like projectiles in Star Wars. Seemed kind of weird, but interesting to see the progression of technology. Those JSF's are just freakin sweet anyway.

Freespace 2.

Yes, I know it's not a TV show or movie...

Ignore the opening monologue, it's boring for those not acquainted.

Even though the Youtube video does not do justice to the FS2 SCP, you can see the MASSIVE scale of some of the battles... capital ships are of immense scale and literally take minutes to fly by.

Capital ship beam weapons make fighters look like puny gnats, and getting caught in their path = instant death.

Are they rehashing the same old story, or is this something fresh?

Agreed. When Adama went "All hands, brace for turbulence," I had no idea what was coming 😀

I've noticed that it helps to fast forward through the SW battles, that way you can stay awake long enough to get past them without falling asleep.

They also did a decent job with the First Contact battle.

Fan-created sequence, a mish-mash of various series.

that's star wreck - rather a parody of star trek while incorporating parts from other series as well.
