Anyone having difficulty getting IDE 3,& 4 to work?.According to the manual, these can be configured as RAID(in the bios)or left as default IDE connections.I can't get either to recognize any kind of device.I was wanting to put my cd-rom,and burner on seperate IDE channels........Thanks..🙂

Thanks for the reply,I'll check it out.The manual said no changes in bios were necessary for IDE function, that why I didn't look there.Maybe the manual has an error or two?.Thanks again.🙂

The only bios option says,"Onboard IDE RAID",enable,or disable.I tried both, didn't help.I wasn't aware that RAID was referred to as IDE RAID?......Maybe its time for tech support?..........🙂

The dragon plus also has a jumper to set it to individual drives vs raid. Have you checked to see it yours has something similiar?

back to your original post... are you trying to put the cdrom and burner on the promise controller?

the onboard raid controllers only works with harddrives

you need to put your hardrives on the raid controller (even if you dont use the raid functions) then put the cdrom and cdburner on the via ide ports

This motherboard advertises a "jumperless" design. The only jumper referenced is a cmos reset.I have looked for another, and cannot locate one.The RAID controller is a High Point brand. From the manual:"You can use IDE channels 3,4 as normal IDE channels. No bios changes necessary."You can also use a cd-rom on IDE3,4 if you choose".....I'm still in the dark about the primary, and secondary issue, unless its just a naming convention?.
I very much appreciate the help..🙂.I hate to get a RMA request if its just user error.
Not sure what happens with the bios RAID option enabled, and the High Point software not installed,so I just disabled it in the bios................Maybe this is a "The manual is incorrect" issue?....🙂

Just got done with tech support. Here is what they say.......Regardless of what the manual says, you cannot use cd-rom on IDE channels 3,4.
You must run the RAID drivers ,then use the normal IDE option to access channels 3,4,even though the manual says different.....Might be nice if they correct the darn manual..Geez...🙂

Still no luck....Loaded the High Point RAID drivers, but there is no optionin the menu for just IDE use, only RAID options.....Enabled the onboard RAID option in the bios..The bios recognizes the hard drive, but it wont boot. The manual says to set bios to "first boot device" SCSI,so I did.I dont get a "Boot disk failure" message. It is hanging up on DMI pool...................Anybody?????????????🙂

ive never used the p4 dragon, but every board ive ever seen with onboard raid has a jumper on the board itself that is used to change between raid functions and plain ata100/133 functions

im guessing its set for raid

The only jumper on this board if for cmos reset.

P4S Dragon Plus FAQ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RAID.

Q. I cannot use my on-board RAID.
A. Enable the on-board RAID function in the BIOS.

Q. Can 3,4 be used a normal IDE channels?
A. Yes,no changes in the bios are necessary.

Q. Can I use my CD-ROM on IDE 3 & 4?
A. No
( My manual answered the last question with a "yes")
All manual indications are that 3,4 work as IDE by default.,This apparantly is not the case.Unless I enable "Onboard RAID" in the bios, the screen with the other 4 channels doesnt even show up.If I do enable it,and try to use it,the drive show up,but the bios locks on "Checking DMI pool". I'll get tech support to iron this mess out.BTW,the K7 Athlon version of this board has the Raid jumper, this one does not.🙂.Thanks for the reply.

Hi Vetplus,

Just wondered if you had figured out the problem

As I also need the ability to run IDE 3 & 4 as non RAID, and as the choice of boards is limited, I would be interested in knowing.

Hi Vetplus,

I just checked the manual for the SY P41SR, and the RAID controller doesn't seem to support WinXP.

I could be wrong, however.

Mine is a p4S Dragon. It has XP drivers for the RAID,but they dont work. This is one of their newest boards. I can't imagine compatability issues with XP,but apparantly there are.I am gonna see what 98 will do......🙂
