I have tried for three days to put this new system together and I have come to the conclusion that it is the MB!!! If anyone has any other suggestions I am all ears.
The setup is SOYO K7V Dragon+ MB with WD 60 GB HD, Pioneer 16x CD-DVD drive and Leadtek GF2 MX200 32.
All went ok in the assembly in a new case with a new Enermax 350 watt PSU. My first problems were accessing the CD and being able to format the HD. Using a WD98SE Startup disk I was able to fdisk, and partition the HD successfully with three 20 GB partitions. On the CD access, I called SOYO, and got the suggestion to change the boot disk to get rid of the SCSI driver seeks where it seemed to hang up. I changed nothing and tried a few more times, waiting patiently, and finally was able to access the CD and to begin loading W98SE from CD. The setup went 80% through the process and hung up at the end. I have tried numerous times to load and it continues to HANG at every possible step in the process. I even formatted C: and started over. Same problems develop and the more I try the sooner it hangs. I tried to use failsafe defaults and that made things worse. The memory check recycled continuously and the system response was terribly slow.
Hardware monitor shows 40 degrees for the processor and 32 degrees ambient.
