Has anyone tried this setup? I'm upgrading from a PIII 550 and want to put the fastest CPU in possible. I want to make sure that it'll work before I spend the money...

thx

well it's all about multiplier.. If you want something fast you can drop in a 133 BUS PIII. I had a 700E at 959 in my 6BA+IV. that's 138 fsb (not sure may be 137)

But ya get the point.. As long as your AGP card can handle the AGP BUS a 133 MHz PIII would work great. Mine did

I'm running a GF2 GTS (Asus V7700) and it would easily run at about 96 MHz AGP BUS.

Also, by overclocking a 700E you save alot of money.. and in my personal experiences that mobo overclocks better than any other board I've owned !!!!

I have a Soyo 6BA+IV with a PIII 500. I want to upgrade the CPU to a PIII 933 but was under the impression from the Soyo website that the max CPU speed for the 6BA+IV is 600 MHz. What's the scoop on this? Can I put a PIII 933 in my 6BA+IV or do I need to upgrade my mobo? (I was thinking about the 6BA+100).

end.

The Soyo 6BA+IV should support any PIIIXXXE 100mhz FSB. Just make sure you upgrade your bios first. It supports up to an 8X multiplier but since PIII's are multiplier locked it will pick up whatever the multiplier is on the processor. I would recommend staying away from EB(133mhz FSB) processors because the BX chipset doesn't officially support it and you don't have a lot of head room to overclock.. I was running a C566@850 8.5 multiplier and it ran perfectly. If you have quality Ram, heatsink and a video card that doesn't mind higher AGP bus speeds, then I'd recommend a PIII 700E CCO and overclock the crap out of it. I am currently running a PIII 700E@1008 stable on my BA+IV(Video card holding me back). Also the BA+III/IV/100 are basically the same boards except for: BA+IV added a Highpoint ATA66 Controller and the BA+100 added a ATA100 Raid controller.

Yeah you can put a PIII 933 on your 6BA. It works like a charm!
(SY-6BA+IV best mobo I've ever owned)

Long live the 6BA+ series!!!

Thanks for the info everyone!

I installed the PIII 850 and it worked as advertised. Much quicker than the 550 and no stability issues to date.
