I had to call twice before I could get someone to take the promo code, but i wasn't able to get the LCD since they were out of stock. I checked online today, and they're on backorder, which means I could order one today with the promo and get it for $269 shipped. However, LCD prices are crashing, so I'm gonna hold out for a better deal.

I got my LCD today (Ordered yesterday zip code 07666).

Now, does it come without any type of seal tape at the top of the box ?

also UPS delivered it without any box except for the lcd box itself.
Did this happen for anyone else ?

Wow. Nice. It's back. I wonder if that means other display prices will be dropping too. I'd love to have usb hub on it.

No seal, and yes, no double boxing.

"No seal, and yes, no double boxing. "

Same packaging here but LCD was brand new and in great shape.

Has anyone with a meter measured the black level and white level of this monitor to determine real-world contrast? It seems very poor from what I've seen. The black is probably the worst I've seen on an LCD in recent history. Even with lights on in the room, anything with a black background just shows up as gray/purple instead of black.

I think the problem is that the backlight is set to a very high brightness with no way to adjust it lower. The brightness and contrast sliders do not effect the backlight (these controls just tweak the RGB values like the sliders in your video card's control panel). Lack of backlight control also makes this panel too bright when used in a dark environment.

Has anyone else compared this to their other LCD's blacks? I'm using the Dell 2001FP as reference.

I noticed this, and then I played with my video card adjustments.....and it looks great now. Just as my Samsung monitor did, if not better. So I think it's just a settings issue.

Can't say I have this problem
I just switched from a 19" Sony Trinitron to this yesterday, I loaded up Bioshock and the black levels seem rather comparable

My blacks are fine as long as I don't set the contrast too high. Check and see if your monitor has the "high light" set to full. Push the button 2nd from the bottom. Then push either one of the 2nd or 3rd buttons from the top to manipulate which setting is enabled and select "off". Note that the contrast, brightness, and position controls in this menu are not for the monitor as a whole, but for the area and position of the highlighted area.

You can't judge black level when there are other bright objects on the screen because your eye pupil closes down so cope with the brighter objects. Bright room lighting does the same thing so it helps to be in a darker environment. Even with a 60watt bulb in the room, the blacks on this Soyo still look much worse than any LCD I've used. Compared to my CRT they are even worse but that's true for any LCD. I just find it sad that my 5 year old Dell 2001fp LCD has better blacks even with an IPS panel and 400:1 contrast. No way this Soyo is 1000:1 unless you like looking into the sun.

Still undecided if I will keep it but at this price I may just live with the crappy blacks. If anyone has another LCD, can you take a picture side-by-side of a black background and post it here?

Ok, so I got this monitor... blue levels seemed off... loaded up Viper's original lower settings for RGB... question is, what is the optimal Contrast/Brightness? I've also tried his solution for the 6500k levels, but they looked horrible... once again, what are the Contrast/Brightness levels?

Also, running an FX5500 here at work, and it gives me the option of running native... but when I do so, I only get 3/4 of the screen... I can move my mouse over to the side to scroll to the other 1/4... what's the problem here?

There are two things I've noticed so far... Brightness levels are pretty even, but the right side of the monitor seems a bit darker than the center. And I can't quite put my finger on it, but it seems like the lower right side of the screen is "fuzzy" or "shaking".

It's defective. Replace or return it. Looks like Soyo's quality has gone downhill. 4 years ago I would've sworn by them. They're mobo's used to be awesome and very reliable. Still have an old athlon comp based off a soyo dragon mobo I ended up sending to mom and pop since they were still running a comp with 98 on it.

What's the deal with this crazy "high light" setting. This was set to FULL out of the box on my monitor, which made everything way too bright. If I hadn't read your post I never would have discovered that I even needed to turn it off.

I've set "high light" off, contrast 50, brightness 25, color "USER", red 38, green 39, blue 35. This looks almost decent by my eyeballs.

I don't know much about color calibration. I've only used laptops (mostly mac) and have left them as calibrated from the factory. I'm not sure how to better calibrate this Soyo now that I've got it.

I know a lot of peole have had issues with this monitor but I guess I am one of the lucky few who has not.

No dead pixels/sparkles/tearing/black lines/burning smell/excessive heat. It may have a slight buzzing from the speakers but I don't use them anyway.

I am using a different DVI cable and also have my xbox360 hooked up via the VGA cable. My video card is an ancient eVGA 6600. DVDs run great and some HD clips may stutter but nothing that can be blamed on the monitor.

I used my AMEX so any issues even beyond the 14 day return period should be dealt with painlessly.

No problems here either. I don't use the built in speakers and I had a good DVI cable already.

Actually I replaced my 2001FP from Dell with this and could not be happier

I am another happy Soyo owner. The Soyo has been flawless so far, the image quality is as good or better than my Dell 24"

The only issue I have with his monitor is the vertical refresh rate! How come it's only 60hz and not at least 75 or 72 hz? Am I the only one who have this problem?

LCDs don't use/need refresh rates higher thn 60hz. dont worry about it.

Refresh rates don't really apply to LCDs.

LCD displays
Much of the discussion of refresh rate does not apply to the liquid crystal portion of an LCD monitor. This is because while a CRT monitor uses the same mechanism for both illumination and imaging, LCDs employ a separate backlight to illuminate the image being portrayed by the LCD's liquid crystal shutters. The shutters themselves do not have a "refresh rate" as such due to the fact that they always stay at whatever opacity they were last instructed to continuously, and do not become more or less transparent until instructed to produce a different opacity.

The closest thing liquid crystal shutters have to a refresh rate is their response time, while nearly all LCD backlights (most notably fluorescent cathodes, which commonly operate at ~200Hz) have a separate figure known as flicker, which describes how many times a second the backlight pulses on and off.

I returned the first one that developed a blue line along the right 1/3 of the screen after a week, and have had the replacement for a couple months and it has been without issue.
