No infamous Soyo rebates that will never come. :)

$300 out the door.

Looks like the monitor is this one. Couldn't find more info anywhere else. Features are pretty meager, but 24" for $300, can't expect much.

It's on the last page of Office Max's ad for the week of the 19th through the 25th.

I have had this for a week now. Seems good enough for the price. Got it for the wife to replace her 2005fpw.

How does this monitor do on gaming? Does it play dvds decently? a 20 second review from a fellow AT'er would rock!

I looked at this 2 weeks ago when they listed another monitor on sale. The clerk took me into the back because he said they just came in. There is no mention of HDCP on the box anywhere as I recall.

Just picked one up; for $299 it's a deal.. Everything about it is better than what I expected. Colors are good, sharp, bright no dead pixels...

I may get a second one....

FWIW Office Max has a several LCDs on sale this week, stop by, you will probably find something that's hard to pass-up.

can someone who purchased one confirm 2 things:

the LCD manufacturer model number... i know its Soyo, but there must be a mfgr number.

does this monitor have HDCP... look in the manual for any mention of HDCP ,,, sometimes it will describe a port as DVI-HDCP or it will list DHCP under features.

The monitor is the Soyo Topaz S: MT-GW-DYLM24D6
There is no mention of HDCP, neither on the box nor the manual.

I've been playing with mine for the past half hour. No stuck/dead pixels. Even backlighting and overall visual impression
compares favourably with my Acer AL2416W. The stand is a little wiggly and I won't even comment on the speakers.
Overall, I'm impressed. Games look great and this price is fantastic.

Picked one up this morning and it looks great straight out of the box (connected via dvi to a Everex xt5000t laptop). No backlight bleed issues like I had with the Acer 223W that I picked up a few weeks ago. Brightness is uniform and there's very little brightness dropoff away from a head-on view. No dead pixels either.

No frills design is good IMHO (in fact they should have even done away with the speakers which sound tinny and just make the bottom bezel thicker than it should be). A good buy at $289 (with $10 coupon).

Not only did the local Office Max not have the Everex XT5000T back when those were on sale, they don't have the 24" Soyo monitor today. For both of these they did not even have a space for them, so it wasn't just a matter of being OOS, but that the local store just didn't carry it. Of course the weekly ad (a whole stack by the door) had the monitor on the back page.

Maybe I can mail order it with free shipping, like I did the Everex.

Do you have a PS3? Or some other way of knowing for sure if it has HDCP, like a XBOX HD drive to hook up to your PC?

I can get a hold of a 360 drive. I know that the one link provided says it does not support it but why not.

Alright I got the 360 drive so that will be coming up later. I also will do some gaming on it to see how it fairs. I will say that for a "cheap" monitor the heaviness and build quality wasnt so bad. The stand is a cheap peice of plastic but overall I didnt feel like I was holding a 300 dollar 24".

How does this compare to the VIEWSONIC 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor they have on sale for $250???

I'd give up some screen, for better quality/picture/specs.

The problem with the monitor so far is that theres very little information on it. I have a 22 inch Westinghouse to compare it to. I think other than that this will be a great monitor to pair with another 24" for dualview.

hm strange no mention of HDCP , i couldnt imagine a 24" widescreen shipping these days without hdcp...

could someone test it by connecting (digitally of course(hdmi->dvi cable)) to a ps3? and watching a blu-ray at 1080p?

also for anyoen with this display , can it display resolutions, like 1600x1200 without streatching or distorting the image..

and please.. dont give feedback about anything if you connect in analog... too many people complain of blurryness and the likes... we know analog sucks... we've always known...
