Soyo 24" LCD display too small at 1920x1200

When I set my Soyo 24" LCD to 1920x1200 resolution using windows xp,
the displayed picture is too small to fill the screen. Specifically, there is about
a 3" black margin on the left side, and a 1/2" black margin on the right side.

If I set the resolution to 1600x1200, the picture fills the screen, though
the image is streched a bit. This is using the analog vga connector on an
older agp nvidia 5200 card. I have tried the auto-adjust button on the
soyo without anything good happening.

I set the monitor to be a plug-and-play monitor on xp.

I have tried resetting the monitor, but I am not sure I succeeded.
The side buttons aren't very obvious to use, and the printed documentation isn't very clear on using the buttons.

Any ideas what is wrong, and how to fix it?

Thanks,
lopgok

Its probably an issue with the video card - does it have a DVI connector you can use? Try playing with the display timings in the NVidia driver - it should be somewhere in the advanced NVidia display properties.

it could be your gf5200 is just too old. I had some desktop scaling issues with a gf4200ti and a 19"lcd, but it works with a 6600gt. My soyo 24" works fine with with a 7900gs at full res.

you can try using the latest drivers, but I find most of the newer "optimized for vista" drivers tend to screw up older cards. You'll want to play with the "flat panel scaling" options most likely.

I didn't do anything other than reboot my computer, but somehow the display is working now at 1920x1200.
Still having problems with that resolution on linux, but I can deal with that myself...

thanks everyone,
