Are you guys sure its not a TN panel?
The viewing angles are not that great, suggesting its a TN panel.

And on the other hand the response time is also bad.
What is really good about this other than the alleged M-PVA panel?

Somebody took the panel apart and took a pic. It is an M-PVA panel.

What is really good about this other than the alleged M-PVA...

300 bux for 24" M-PVA no rebates -- Hot hot hot.

I would buy a second one if I had room on my desk to fit it.

Picked one up from B&M on Wednesday. No dead pixels here either. Beautiful picture quality with a cheapo plasticy chassis. All I wanted was a monitor -- not a monitor/HDTV/USB hub/audio system (though it comes with useless built-in speakers). For $299, I'm extremely happy! I'll take a simple 24" screen with 1920x1200 resolution over a 1600x1080 20-22" with the works any day of the week!

Also someone tracked down the manufacturer of the panel-- it was a subsidiary of Benq; called them up and found out it's the same panel as the one used in the BenQ FP241W:

Basically a whole line of pixels goes bad.

I haven't had any problems yet, but both display units I've seen have had a row bad. Hence I bought the 2-year officemax warranty.

I'm optimistic it won't be a problem; those panels run 24/7 and it'll be a long time before mine has seen that much time.

$30 off of $200 - from my maxperks email WFG5X5FTB02L0HFNC good through friday 1/18/08

I tried to use one of these codes a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get the deal to work.

Even though it was advertised for $299 in the stores, it would not allow me to order online. I called the 800 number and was told the price of the monitor was $399. When I directed them to the weekly ad, I was then told that the $30 coupon code did not apply because the $299 price already represented a reduced price.

Has anyone else been able to get this to work?

I would like to get one at $270, not $300.

you might be right...my order from Wed (1/16) is just sitting there 'Processsing'

I called about mine when I noticed mine was still in processing. The CSR told me mine was shipped already and gave me the tracking number. She said their website doesn't update in realtime...go figure.

I bought this screen for my laptop. IBM Thinkpad T40 2373. I crank up the resolution to 1920 x 1200 but it remains on 1024 x 768. The resolution slider saves at the higher resolution, but nothing actually changes and everything is HUGE.

Any idea why it won't go up?

Call IBM/Lenovo about it; this is your laptop/integrated graphics drivers at fault here.

Just bought one of these Soyo's - HOLY CRAP!!! Very crisp and clear, feels nearly twice the size of the 17" NEC it's replacing. Haven't played any games yet, will post about those later (maybe tomorrow). Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that somewhat reviewed this monitor in this thread. This thing is gorgeous.

Excellent, it is online now. Worth the upgrade from a Dell 2001FP that has nothing wrong with it (other than technological inferiority)?

No movies, some 3D gaming (Neverwinter Nights 2), heavy internet / office / programming use.

I've had mine since October, and it's simply amazing. It's great for 1080p video, games, and everything else. I was surprised at how quickly I got used to the enormous screen size, but there you go. Mine did require a bit of calibration, I used the settings in the first thread on this monitor deal back in October.

Just got this 2 days ago. Great monitor. Crisp and clear and no shadowing. Use it mainly for gaming, and it is spectacular.

My Soyo has been doing just great (after adjusting contrast/brightness/color). However, today a fault surfaced. I don't watch DVD movies on it, but I do occasionally check burns which I did today. I was shocked to see how completely washed out the colors were, especially after seeing how stunning photographs look.

I reset my adjustments back to factory--video still washed out.

Any comments?

Did I understand right, it is awesome monitor unless you do photo processing due color distortions.

Wrong understanding, as I said, "stunning photographs". No problems at all working in Adobe Photoshop or Corel Photo Paint.
It's ONLY DVD movies that look totally faded out

That's your video drivers and/or card then; this display is fine.

I just received mine. It could look better, but for under $300, it beats the pants off my old Planar 19" 1290x1024 screen. As said before, the stand it's on feels very cheap. I made sure to read the direction before adjusting it. The directions didn't help, but at least I found out it does adjust. The way the monitor snaps into the base it led me to believe it wouldn't tilt backwards, but it does.

edit: The more I look at this screen, the more I'm amazed at the price. I paid almost three times this much for a Hitachi 19" CRT years ago, and I paid twice this much for each of a couple of 19" LCD screens that suck compared to this one. I thought my wife wouldn't notice, but she didn't even have to get inside the room before she noticed a big difference.

Yes indeed--card drivers. Your post triggered a memory of my updating the NVIDA drivers about a month ago. I rolled back to previous driver and all is well.

In my estimation the Soyo 24 " monitor is the very best value available and at the Office Max $100 off deal, it's an incredible buy. It out performed three other monitors I evaluated (all more expensive).

There is a setting in the OSD that refers to a "highlight", available in either half or full screen. Mine was on by default, and it caused some fading of colors until I figured out it was on. After I turned it off, and calibrated the colors, it looked amazing.

YES! I have that!

I thought it was my computer, like the computer wasn't giving the system enough power to boot. I guess I should have tested by plugging in another monitor without rebooting.

I have two of these monitors and I really recommend them. Do get the warranty though - I replaced one due to the black line issue at 5 months of age.
