Let me guess this. The combo sells for $49 tomorrow and fools will wait outside for 10 hours for a $49 chair?? I mean, if this was the release of PS3, that's something worth camping for, but a $49 chair? You got to be kidding me. I guess there's more people that's desperate and jobless than I had expected. For a $49 chair, I would not wait more than 5 hours for. Even the minimum wage dude at McD's can earn enough in a day's work to get the chair than to stand outside at night in the dark and cold for a free chair. Pathetic.

I am going to IKEA tomorrow anyway. I am going to show up at 8:30am, if I get the chair good for me if not, oh well.

WHOA! i got there at 6:30 this morning, lines were packed! Definitely already more than 200 people in line! seemed like the 1st 100 were the ones with the sleeping bags.

got to ikea around 6am and there were people camped outside. already over 100 people were there so i just left. maybe nexttime

dont you know ppl are lazy, free stuff is always better than stuff that you have to work for!!

besides, if people would wait in line to pay for cheap stuff (ahem...Fry's black Friday), then this is even better deal

unboring... for you in southern cali!

Here in Chicagoland the parking lot is packed constantly at the local IKEA so they don't need to have any sales. Full Bummage factor in place.

Let's see... sleeping on a sidewalk outside in the cold with nearly a hundred strangers around you for nearly 12 hours. I think I'd rather work. At 5:45AM, the Ikea people woke everyone up for a 1st class 3rd world country breakfast: granola bar and Tree Top apple juice. It was mostly a publicity stunt with many news stations being there at the coverage. I went because I'm pathetic.

I went around 10:30am to buy the chair... It was pure chaos - it really brought out the worst in people! They were pushing eachother around, ripping boxes open left and right to see if the right chair was inside, yelling, etc. Anyway, they sold out before I could get one!

man, the new one that is suppose to open by college park md... i'm afraid of what the first day might be like... especially w/ the traffic pattern around route 1.... i think they were insane to build there. and my mom wants to go on opening day......

I hit the Carson, CA store around 12:00 noon. My strategy was that the chaos would be mostly over by then... It took me around 45 minutes just to get in the store as they were dribbling people into the place 10 @ a time. It took forever. Once inside however, it was actually pretty relaxed (due to the staggering of people coming into the store). Lots of good deals on small stuff too. I found some great desk accessories, storage containers, magazine holders, etc. all on sale. Also picked up two dressers for $29/each. A couple of new area rugs. Overall, some good stuff on sale.

The Poang chairs were mostly gone, but they kept bringing out more from the warehouse or something. Every time they did, hordes of people converged on the area grabbing what they could and pushing people outta the way. You'd think they were gold-plated or something... Sheesh...

regular price was $119 with footstool, but now the blue slipcover with orange frames one (the ugly one) is on sale for $49, and i know some other colors are $79.
After all, THEY ARE JUST CHAIRS....... can't believe people push each other just to buy chairs.....

Really, are others on sale for 79.99? That's not even such a bad deal considering its 33% off or so! Perhaps I'll just have to get a higher priced, non violence-inducing version of the chair then? Anyway, I called Ikea in Carson and they said they'd be getting in a shipment of 80 more chairs sometime before the 1st, but they didn't know what day.

Considered hitting the Carson, CA store around 8am, then thought "Forget it, I'll just go later and get the chair+footrest for $50".
Went to the store around 3pm... Pretty calm...

I talked to one of the workers, and he told me people started camping out at 11 or 12 the night before! Good thing I didn't bother coming at 8am 🙂 He also told me the $50 chairs were gone withing 2 hrs.

After reading some details of people who went for the deal, and what they saw in people's behavior, it doesn't stop to amaze me the extent people are willing to go to save a few bucks! I guess that's why we all read this forum on a daily basis, but still, I'm glad I didn't get to see the ugly scene...

To those who managed to snatch one, kudos to you!

Man, I'm never doing that again. Wasted 12 hours of my life camping out on the cold concrete in front of IKEA. Sat through an annoying DJ with LAME trivia questions and bad music. Battled hordes of people, pushing, shoving, snatching, screaming, etc. And for what? A couple slabs of wood with some padding that I can sit on. NOT A HOT DEAL.

The orange county store filled up with the first 100 people by 10:30 PM, I know because I was there at 10 PM. The waiting wasn't so bad, but after the store opened it was pure chaos, people grabbing left and right for the chairs. I went with a group of friends to camp out for fun since we're all poor college student and was able to come out with a free white chair for myself and 2 blue chairs for my mom.

LOL camping out all night for just a chair would be pretty pathetic IMO. If its with friends it might be an experience worth telling to your grandchildren 🙂

Ok, enough about the free chairs. They are all gone. Where can I get that $50 off coupon? Naturally, this last week was the first time I haven't bought the Sunday times in ages. Anyone know of any place in LA that might still have copies of Sunday's paper?
