Southbridge cooling.... what to use??

Hi,

Has anyone used any heatsinks or coolers that fit the southbridge on Nvidia Nforce2 chipsets??

I am looking for ideas, it seems that there is not too much space to put something there, but I would really like to cool that down as well.

i don't think the south bridge needs cooling, just the northbridge (the one closest to the cpu)

look over at he zalman stuff, i beleive they make northbridge hsf stuff

Check out the pics here and you'll see why it isn't a bad idea to add at least some small cooling on that sb.

I use one of the smaller heatsinks from this kit on my a7n8x.


Decent ram sinks would also work fine.

Yes it is.

I used 3m Thermal tape to attach a small H/S to my SB. And it does get pretty warm, though not like the NB does.

I put the Vantec CCB-A1C on the northbridge of my 8RDA+, and moved the stock hs to the southbridge. Had to shave the underside of 3 or 4 of the fins to allow clearence for some mobo components. It get's hot, but I'm running 11.5x200 with stock voltage, so that's not too surprising.

Thanks guys, actually I was looking at the Vantec even before I put forth my question. It is about as perfect a fit (using the smaller heatsik) as it could get. My concern was that it did not look like it could dissapate much heat, but I sure it is better than nothing,

Looks like the one who took the pics also used a small sink from that vantec kit. Seems to work ok for the sb.

Won't fit. I have one sitting here, 'cause I bought it, and then found it's the right size for a VGA chipset, but will not fit on the 8RDA+. Got a Thermaltake Crystal (it's NOT freaking crystal!!!) orb sitting here too, 'cause it won't fit either. That's why I'm using the Vantec CCB-A1C.
