God I hope Family Guy rips on South Park now... that would so hilarious.

well, it takes FG like 9months to produce 1 episode, as opposed to SP which takes 6 days....it won't be funny then...

I thought the episdoe was meh, until the end...

"Will Comedy Central show the episodoe uncensored, or will they puss out."

LOL, that was great!!

idk if they're gonna show prophet muhammed or what.

I am surprised that as many people enjoy Family Guy as there appears to be. It's funny and all, on occasion, and I watch it if nothing else is on, but I think the show is pretty awful. Family Guy is far from original and clever; unless you do think putting in retro poser-ish jokes in to fill up empty space because their original dialogue totally blows as being "clever." There is no way that Family Guy will ever have the longevity of South Park, or hell even the Simpsons. I would be surprised if Family Guy lasts for two more seasons. Then again most of what is on network TV really blows, so perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised.

South park has nothing on family guy except old age. I can't believe people still like that show.

. . . nothing but originality, cleverness, astute social commentary, and so forth. Well, guess if you were desperate enough, some obscure reference to He-Man in Family Guy could be considered social commentary, but I wouldn't buy it.

I concur. I started watching South Park in high school, but stopped watching soon after. My roommate has gotten me back into it and I can't believe how hilarious and astute its social commentary is. I definitely think the episodes dedicated to free speech issues are perhaps their best yet. The most effective way to communicate a social or political issue is by making it funny (i.e. Daily Show, Michael Moore).

Well, I watched the first ep of South Park tonight in 2 or 3 years for me. I didn't laugh and It seemed they were ragging more on CC for pulling the scientology ep than Family Guy.

i like them all... south park, family guy, simpsons, and american dad, not in that order

Smug episode was GREAT. It's about fvcking time someone criticized that Clooney acceptance speech.

After his speech, EVERY TV talking head couldn't wait to have Clooney wipe his ass on their faces. So many people said it was a great speech.. and that Hollywood deserves a better reputation, etc..

But FVCK that. Hollywood is a bunch of idiot liberal overpaid uneducated entertainment producers that feel they should use their social clout to further their own agenda, and themselves as the highest priority.

:cookie: for the guy that gets it. The episode has more to do with SP giving CC a hard time for pulling 2 SP episodes(Bloody Mary and Scientology), hence Cartman's cancellation theory. They are poking fun at Family Guy too(they are rivals after all), but the main idea of the episode was CC's bowing to pressure to pull SP episodes, not making fun of Family Guy.

Actually, there were at least 4 different things that SP ripped on in this episode.

Family Guy, obviously.

CC, obviously.

Isaac Hayes - Cartman's religious indignation in the beginning of the episode sounds EXACTLY like Hayes' statement.

Cruise/Catholics - the cancellation theory.

Cartoons/free speech - obvious.

I thought the smug one was alright, and this one was flat-out hilarious. Almost as funny as last night's House.

I agree. It seem to me that they were making fun of family guy that much. More so they were using family guy to show how they're being edited by their sissy network and station.

hmm, i only watch family guy now. south park as well as the simpsons kind of lost it a few seasons ago. family guy is better then the simpsons because of all the flashbacks. they rock!

You forgot the fact they ripped on South Park too.

I don't really make any effort to watch FG any more - I can only take so many 80's pop culture references.

Edit: I've never really liked SP either though 😛

South Park really didnt rip on the Family Guy...this episode was simply a continuation of their free speech crusade against those who wish to censor South Park.

They chose Family Guy largely because it is a rather benign show...not something you would expect to spark a controversy. The very idea of Family guy portraying the Prophet Mohammed is ridiculous, which is part of the South Park charm. You could switch out Family Guy with any number of other shows to get the same effect, although Parker and Stone have been quite vocal in their distaste for the show.

You have to remember that Kyle, Stan and Cartman essentially are manifestations of Parker and Stone's personalities...Stan and Kyle serve as the voice of reason (they like Family Guy) while Cartman is the evil we are all capable of.

In one episode they managed to take shots at numerous issues:
- Free speech: The solution that the adults come up with is to stick their heads in the sand, a direct critcism of our society's increasing tendency to ignore problems and hope they will go away.

- Muslims rioting over the Family Guy, poking fun at the whole European political cartoon controversy a few weeks back.

- Cartman pretending to speak on the behalf of Muslims with the hidden agenda of using this to get Family Guy off television, simply because he doesn't like the show (because this never happens in America)

- Butters' father's dialogue on free speech, which is partially an extension of Parker and Stone targeting Scientology.

- And to drive the point home, a parting shot at Comedy Central in the closing minutes.

If you are upset about the Family Guy reference, you missed the entire point of the episode.

Exactly. More over than that, it seemed like south park was giving props to fox for sticking up for the wiriters of Family Guy instead of folding like CC.

To all the SouthPark haters:

When Family guy is in its 10th season, we'll see how good it is.

Not that I don't love Family Guy as well, but lets face it - it was cancelled after 3 seasons and was lucky to get back on the air in the first place. Granted, its doing a lot better now on ratings - which is weird because the first 3 seasons were better IMO. Regardless, Futurama was (IMO) a better show and got cancelled after 5 seasons. I doubt Family Guy will be on the air as long as SouthPark has been already.

:thumbsup: from me...i think this was a great episode, not just for all the political commentary undertones and whatnot, but for an episode that stayed on track.
i loved the lampooning of FG...i mean the jokes were exactly what FG jokes are...stupid in no context of the episode....the whole "when i auditioned to be kitt" thats prettymuch exactly what you see them doing on FG time after time.

That is true, south park has been around forever. Maybe Ill lose interest in Family Guy as I did with south park after a while.
