`Hurricane` Heading Toward Southern Brazil!



A South Atlantic Tropical Cyclone!?! Most literature dealing with tropical weather would agree: hurricanes are unknown over the southern Atlantic Ocean. Yet, as of early Friday, a storm with a well-formed eye about 300 miles east of southern Brazil has all the look of a hurricane. If indeed this is a tropical cyclone, it did not begin in the usual way; rather, it began as an ordinary "cool" trough that sat over warm seas for a few days. The atmospheric setting must have been "just right" to allow this trough to strengthen markedly while altering from cool-core to warm-core, and thus tropical, in nature.

Yeah, I was reading about it right now.
As a weather nut, I'm very interested (although a bit apprehensive) of what will become of this.

Last info that I had was of a cat 1 storm, with 119 to 125 km/h winds.
I live on the top tip of the S in 'Sat Eve' in that second image. Not likely to be hit by the storm, but I can't help wonder how much damage it would bring to an unprepared country.

Yeah, crazy stuff. I saw this minutes ago.

I live in Sao Paulo too, probably we wont be hit.

I dont know if this wind velocity could cause damage.

That satellite picture is incredible. The Brazilians really are "out to lunch" on this one as the US meteorologists have stated. How can you not see that that is a Cat 1 hurricane?

I dont know if Hurricanes are different than the storms we have which are just called storm, but 125km/h wind isnt causing damage

Two dead and seven missing as of this morning.

There are conflicts on how this storm should be categorized. Since all measurements are estimated (no planes have flown into the storm, because we never had the need to have hurricane planes), one can only guess how it will behave.
