South Asian quake kills 100000+

More Cambodian and Vietnamese were killed during the Vietnam war then this quake alone.
This is tamed in comparison. Only 10K? God, compare that to 3 millions or more!
Proving that human casualty from wars is much more serious then this.

🙁

A lot of the people who died lived on the coastlines of these countries and were poor. I saw about 400 fishermen in India die, in one of the reports.

Quick facts:

A tsunami can reach speeds in excess of 600MPH (jet plane).

The speed will diminish as it reaches deeper or more shallow water.

As the wave reaches shallow water it will rise from the ocean and generally it's between 50 and 100 feet high before it hits dry land.

Such waves generally have a 1,000 feet reach inland.

The largest recorded wave was 1,722 feet which hit Lituya Bay Alaska in 1958. This is due to the nearness of the land to the epicentre of the underwater earthquake. Lituya Bay was virtually wiped off the face of the Earth.

Anyone know of videos of the wave?

i've seen some of them, about 3 or 4. in all of you can see people being eaten up by the water.

in one however, i was shocked and disturbed, really. It was a upclose shot of a couple holding on to each other, they were european i believe british or australian by their accents. they were swept away by a huge force of water. that is really really sad 🙁

Where did you find them? I'm not into the disturbing stuff but I'd like to see the size of the wave (pictures don't seem to do it justice).

here you go

theres also a vid about a close up of a couple i believe clinging to a object but eventually losing to the great amound of water, its really sad ... i'll post it later

*edit *

oh nevermind, i saw this vid somewhere else and didnt notice its in this link as well

thanks. that's crazy. I would have thought it was more sudden than that it seemed to steadily get worse. I wonder what happened to that couple...

I think you posted the one with the couple that gets pushed away. Might as well post the other one too...

They showed the video on Olberman tonight and he said the husband was treated for an arm injury and the wife is still missing.
