well here's the warnings that everyone claims they want to hear. I honestly don't understand why everyone wants to know this stuff. Let the FBI/CIA/other government agencies do their damn job instead of trying to give us generic warnings like these.

I can't even be bothered to read that. Total waste of time and effort. They have been having these reports every once in a while since 9/11. Some are very vague and others less so. The average person has absolutely zero control or influence over the proceedings, and yes we know that terrorists are around. They do these just so that people don't forget, but I think most haven't, so I'd rather read about who will be the next American Idol (and I don't even care about that).

The purpose of terrorists is to terrorize people. Just making available some vague plans to cause massive damage is evough to accomplish their purpose. Works every time, doesn't it? At least with some people.

so if someone ever happens, the govt can justify its $800 trillion buget for the 'war on terror', which actually has caused more problems than its helped

You probably won't know. Indeed, if the FBI had detailed information and released it, that would be assuring that the plan wouldn't go through, so terrorists will just pick something else.

People should get used to the fact that anything can happen at any time, and just go on with their lives, after doing whatever they can in regards to the threat-factor (which for most people is nothing). Anything else is just pointless living in fear.

if the government doesn't post these vague warnings, then the opposing political party and some citizens will bitch and whine. Since 9/11, we constantly hear about these "backseat drivers" with 20/20 hindsight who keeps bitching about how we were never warned of the potential threat.

They plan to slowly raise gas prices, until none of us can afford to drive to work and the country comes to a screeching halt! :Q

Officials said the attacks might take place before the November presidential election in an attempt to affect the outcome, similar to the way the Madrid train bombings influenced Spanish elections.

I find this hard to believe. If anything a terrorist attack would boost support for Bush. Look at his approval ratings immediately after 9/11

If your gonna get blown up in a suicide bomber attack, your gonna get blown up. You wont know when its gonna happen, but theres no sense in pissing yourself in the mean time.

So what do you suggest? That we just roll over and let Bin Laden win? Remember: These people hate our very way of life, so being "nice to them" won't work.

So they can say "I told you so."

The warning level must be between mauve and lavender. Or is is between pink and fuscia?

They tell us these things because although the liberals have tied thier hands by not allowing profiling there is nothing to stop the average citizen from profiling and this will lead to tips of suspicious behavior that the FBI/CIA can act upon without the PC police crying.
