They stay maxed out no matter what I do. Board is an A78NX Deluxe, I am using the digital out with a 25' cable to my reciever. I have heard also heard clipping (even at low volume) on some of my songs with a lot of music, hoping this might be the reason.

Has this happened to anyone else?
 
Try updating your nForce chipset drivers to the latest version(Version: 4.24),they have a better improved nVidia sound control panel,btw I had same problem ,installing above drivers fixed it for me.
