Well, in addition to your post edit, the Z-680s are around $200 I think. I wouldn't want to spend that much unless they're alot better than the Z-5300's I linked too earlier. From what I read, it appears the Z-5300 is probally fine for me, but I just wanted second opinions.

I already have a Soundstorm, so if my Soundstorm is fine and I don't have to buy another card I won't.

I mostly just plan on gaming/music on this.

if you wanna hook up your xbox to the speakers, your gonna need the Z-680's with the digital input and you have to buy the a/v kit for your xbox, i'm not positive but i'm pretty sure that the 5300's don't have the digital connections required for console gaming. i used soundstorm with my 1-680's when i first got them and it worked pretty well. Like you, i'm not a huge audiophile. I don't have any experience with the 5300's but i can tell you that the z-680's blows just about everything out of the water except the klipsch promedia 5.1 ultras, but the klipsch don't have the digital connections you would need to connect to ur xbox. hope this helps.

I would go and use the spdif output to a compatible set of speakers with digital input...the only one that comes to mind are the z-680s...and maybe the ba 7800s or something over a2 + analog. Matter of fact I have my digital out on my soundstorm hooked up to my htib set in my little 10x12 feet room. It makes the sound in moves err very interesting. 😀
