You don't have to be hardcore to wear the proper equipment for the game. I can't help it your teammates are dumbasses, volleyball might not be a 'dangerous' sport, but ankle injuries are very common. Its a simple fact of the game that if you play in the front row, you should be wearing activeankles.

Oh, or do you not even play positions on your team? Cuz after all you probably have to be "hardcore" to have positions.

edit: don't count intramurels as anything. its just gym class II.

aw man i know exactly what you mean. i think i suffered the same type of injury playing neighborhood football when I was about 15. I had the ball and I was tackled, and the guy who tackled me landed on my ankle and i heard this immediate popping noise. it then started to feel like it was getting very very hot, and I then tried to stand up. immediately i fell down because I could not support my weight.

so they helped me home by basically being a human crutch (we were young and walked to play football) and when I got home, the pain stayed the same as when it started. it was so painful. anyways, i never went to the doctor, but my mom is a nurse and said i had most likely torn a ligament or something, i forget. but yea it was so painful. i was in that pain for a few days, and it started to wind down where I could walk with a slight limp.

to this day, (i'm 23 this saturday) every now and then while walking or doing something athletic, i get pain from it. nothing that totally makes me fall down or anything, but just enough pain to bother you.

No positions, we just all run around like chickens with our head chopped off.

Swelling is perfectly normal in a case like this. You want to be loading up on the anti-inflammatories.

If it were me, I would be on 2 alleve at a time (double normal OTC dose) with regular icing (2-3x per day).

Once per day try and move the joint a bit - very carefully and very gently. Otherwise keep it elevated and watch lots of tv...

Shut up and stop being a troll. instead of being an asshole, you could have simply said "jeez, that sucks sorry to hear. I play on an A division team and a lot of our players wear activeankles to help prevent those injuries."

Yeah, I've been taking 800mg of motrin every 8 hours and throwing ice on it quite a bit. Glad to hear the swelling is normal.. It's strange to see one part of your body fat like that. Remind me never to gain that much weight ;)

Its not my fault you weren't using the right equipment. Volleyball players wear ActiveAnkles for a reason. Its like a football player complaining that he got a concussion when he happened to not be wearing a helmet.

In the 3 leagues I play in, maybe 2 guys wear those things and they are considered the 'dorks' of the group. LOL.

I guess we can't all be professional volleyball players. ;)

*shrug* have fun rolling your ankles. Why WOULDN'T you wear them if you're a front row player? They don't hinder performance, and prevent ankle injuries.

Now, being a libero, I don't wear them, because I play backrow. I also, however, don't wear kneepads...cuz you only need them if you don't know how to dive.

Regular icing= 20 minutes on, 40 off, as often as you can (4-6x if you can).

Yeah, I've been known to roll a few ankles in my day, but never popped a ligament (yet). Sucks man, hope ya get better. And remember, ankle braces don't always help, so just ignore deeko.

I did the same thing in HS. I was out of basketball for I think about two weeks. My ankle looked just like that. After two weeks, I had to keep it wrapped w/ tape. It's never been the same since.

Woohoo!

I wear 'em because I don't always know how I'm going to land. There are a few guys in our leagues that don't wear them either because they say they don't need 'em, but then probably 1 out of 10 nights one of them skins their knee and they bitch and I laugh. :)
