The mouse uses 3 AAA's every 9 days...I've had one since September....The Keyboard and GP are fine!

Kinda OT, but what's the best wireless keyboard/mouse combo out there (price is no object)? Preferably with the mouse built into the keyboard.... Thanks!

try getting logitech wireless mouse + keyboard from justdeals.com ... they even have the wireless optical version with black wireless keyboard for $59.95.... refurbished ... but $10.95 shipping kills most of the deals there....

do NOT get this mouse...it sucked up batteries and they had to be replaced like every 24-48 hours. sure i could use my mouse from upstairs but who really wants to? i got the base station and mouse for -$10 (thats right, negative 10 bucks) after rebate so this is definetly cold

Not the best deal - Shop Intel had the combo for ~$35 and Computer Geeks had it for $19 about two months ago (both eligable for a $30 rebate at the time).

Not sure what the issue is with the batteries; I've been using the Intel wireless mouse and keyboard on almost a daily basis for two months now, and have yet to replace the original batteries that came with the units.

Bought the first set from Shop Intel three days before they removed them from their site (actually bought only the hub/mouse/gamepad combo, but they sent me a combo with a keyboard by mistake). Received the $30 rebates yesterday.

Not a hot deal. I got my Intel wireless mouse and base for $20 - $30 MIR. The mouse is ok, but like everyone else mentioned, they drain batteries like crazy.

Hey my Intel wireless mouse has gone for 2+ months on the same batteries. I installed the mouse using the drivers on the cd. The cd drivers seem to include some type of power saving feature. My HD crashed and I started over with a fresh formatted HDD. I installed the mouse by just letting windows recognize it. Sure enough batteries lasted about 8 days. After replacing the batteries, and reinstalling using the cd the batteries have run for 2+ months. Just my 0.02. See For Sale/Trade for mouse and base shipped <$20.

seems like that $20 and $30 rebate didn't expire until the end of Jan.

Just a thought if someone wants to research it!

I bought this setup from Intel, and I don't use the mouse because i have an optical I would never give up, but I do use the gamepad, and I also got the keyboard, which I LOVE!

I don't know how many times I saw the mouse + base being sold for free (after rebate). I never went for it because the only part I was really interested in getting was the keyboard, which was harder to find a deal for.
My local Microcenter store still has the game pad for $4.99, so that should give you a better idea of what these are worth now.

Welcome to Anandtech Abitaz!

I purchase the base station/mouse/gamepad combo a few months ago for $9. YES they do chew up batteries! I don't know about the CD drivers allowing them to last longer. Hasn't worked for me. Right now my mouse is in pieces so that I can install an on/off switch. The battery use rate is rediculous!

As for the CD drivers working with XP....I haven't had any luck. You can try running them in Win98 compatability mode, but Intel has XP specific drivers on their site. Might want to check those out.

DO NOT use alkalines with wireless products. NiMH batts are the best, and pay for themselves the second time they're used. 1800 mAhs have been on the market for awhile, and last a good long time.

For those interested in adding another game-pad, I saw a whole bunch in the "cheap/clearance" area at my neighborhood Microcenter for $4.95 each...
