Well, since you already set the speakers to 5.1 surround in the advanced audio properties and I presume rebooted after doing so then what it did was activate all 3 jacks for speakers. The Line in becomes the bass/center, the line out becomes front speaker out, and the mic in becomes rear speaker out.

Sorry about the post New to this was not sure where to post.

The way you suggested is the way I tried it the first time:

1) The green lead (front) from the speakers to the center jack on the board
2) The black lead (rear) from the speakers to the bottom jack (closes to the board)
3) Orange lead (center/sub) from the speakers to the top jack on the board.

No matter what the only speakers that work are the ones plugged into the center jack. Everytime I made a change I rebooted. I have to missing something real stupid or the board is bad.

I just setup my computer

windows 2000 pro.
Asus P4PE
Intel 2.53
Samsung 512 DDR333 PC2700
52x cdrom
Pioneer DVR-105 4x DVD burner
western digital 80 gig --8mb
maxtor 30 gig
128 All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500

I cant get soundmax to work either. i have restalled the driver like 4 times and have test all my connections..

Bottom line I will have to dish out $50 to get a PCI sound Card.. I dont even know it that will solve the problem... But i need SOUND..
Onboard sound cards suck..

Everything else on the computer works fine, besides burning out my Powmax PSU (put in the ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FMA) PSU)

I even found a way to mount the PSU right side up in the Jupiter SkyHawk Case

I had posted my problems earlier
seach the word "p4pe" in this Category
