Soundcard makes my pc crash !

Happy times. For the past year I've been switching motherboards, video cards, drivers, OS'es, cables and PSUs in an effort to find out what makes my pc crash while playing newer 3D games.

Finally figured it out - it's the soundcard. Today I disabled my pci soundcard (an audiotrak 7.1) and started using the onboard realtek ac97 - and since then, no crashes.

But the sound quality just doesn't compare. So I'd like to be able to use the PCI sound card... how do I do that, without getting crashes again? Thanks

You can try putting the sound card into different PCI slots. The same thing happened to me with my Audigy 2, and I switched it to a different PCI slot and the problem was solved. I guess sometimes there are just conflicts.

Thanks... there's no way to do it from windows? Like change the IRQ or something - i seem to remember the word "IRQ conflict" as a crash-causing problem, but I can't quite remember how to resolve it.

Multiple times.. and yes they are ******... on their european site they only have up until v1.007 whereas on the korean site they're at 1.17 (which i have also installed).

(never buying audiotrak again)
