Is the soundblaster live X gamer a good sound card. I was thinking about getting a new sound card and was looking at the Xgamer.

yes, great card.

also be sure to explore the Santa Cruz and the Acoustic Edge, both in the same price range and may suit your needs better.

Do a search here and in hardware...MANY threads about this 😀
 
All the Live soundcards are great. I have the MP3+ 5.1, which is the same card with different bundled software. Just make sure you get the X-Gamer 5.1. This newer version has support for Dolby Digital 5.1 built into the card (you don't need a separate Dolby Digital decoder to play DVDs). It's worth getting the 5.1 version even if you don't play DVDs now. You will have the 5.1 capability later on if you decide you want it.
 
Ok thanks, I was just looking at the X gamer, but I'll check out the 5.1 and the santa cruz and acoustic edge.
