A good price for the dvd rom, but if this -->mVQctrdU<-- is your referral ID, you should probably edit your message and remove it.

I checked the Krex page. The barebones system uses the Amptron board with an ALI GFX chipset. Said to be same as ALI TNT2. Might be TNT2 graphics chip.
Sounds like OK deal, if everything works. If you went and bought all those components individually, it would run you about the same -- assuming you scrounged for heavily rebated mice, keyboards, cdroms, lan nic, etc. However, for a 100 or 200 more, you can get a complete system with CPU, mem, and hd. I think vendor reliability is really the key here.

... so my final recommendation is, too close to call (sound familiar)

This is a hot deal if for no other reason than the Pacific Digital CD's are the only ones that I have found to work in the Toshiba SD-1200 DVD player that I bought from accompany a little less than a year ago. Thanks!

On the barebones system, I'd say it probably isn't a very good deal. The NIC, graphics, and sound are integrated into the mATX motherboard (I have one just like that, a Tekram which I bought for $50). Case is roughly $30. KB/mouse/cheap modem/cheap CD/memory can be had for under $50.

Nice price on the 8x DVD player though -- I wonder what brand it is?
