Soundblaster Audigy Platnium worth it?

See the topic for my main question.

My other question is what soundcard is the best for the money? I don't like Turtle beach myself because there isn't much in the way or hookups except the basics for speaker output. I'm looking for a new soundcard and this is why i ask.

The Hercules Game Theater XP uses the same audio chipset as the Santa Cruz, but the GTXP includes a breakout box with all sorts of snazzy connectors. At $80US, I would vote for this one as best bang for the buck. Great driver support, great sound quality, nice game support, overall my favorite bang for the buck. If you are not so into gaming as much as music, I would recommend the Terratec DMX 6Fire 24/96. With true 24-bit, 96KHz sound quality (unlike the Audigy's pseudo 24/96) and uber-flat frequency response all the way up to 22KHz, its $220~250US pricetag seems very reasonable. This is my favorite bang for the buck prosumer sound card.

edit2- forgot to add that the 6Fire 24/96 includes a breakout box with all the doohickies anyone could need 🙂

What is this "pseudo" 24/96 that you speak of?

So lets say a Hardcore Gamer and casual MP3 listener was looking at both of these cards. What one would you recommend?

Go for the hercules and save a hundred bucks and buy more games. I have the Audigy and while it doesnt suck it definately aint worth the extra cash. I cant even hear the difference between the live 5.1 and the audigy. Plus, I like the breakout bow better on the herc than the audigy. Its more functional, IMO.
