sound volume problem - Audigy and z560

This is a pretty wierd problem:
I was experimenting with the surround mixer in the audigy settings, and i clicked mute on the master volume during the surround sound test at the top of the program. Of course, the sound stopped, but when i unchecked mute the sound only came back at about half volume. I say, what the heck!?, so I reboot and the problem is fixed. To make sure it was a one time problem, i go back in and repeat the same procedure and the sound came back at half volume again! This time when I reboot, the sound remains at low volume! Just so you will know the decrease in volume, i used to run my windows volume at around 25% with all other settings in the volume control at 25% as well, and the speaker volume around 30-40%. Now, to get the same sound I have to run windows between 50 and 75% volume (with all other volume controls at 75%) and the speaker volume around 40%.

Has anyone had a similar drop in volume after changing a setting in the audigy or live or can anyone give any advice to help me?

Hi, I just got an audigy and z-560 set as well. I don't know why your volume is dropping. However, when I got my set I looked on 3dsoundsurge.com's forum for suggested volume levels. They said to leave the master volume in the surround mixer at a notch below 100% (I interpreted that as 90%) and the bass and treble settings at 50%. I had my master volume low like you and I was getting distortion and clipping. Another volume abnormality I still have is that on low volume the front right speaker is slightly louder and brighter than the left. When I go to normal volume though it evens out. Try posting your question on 3dsoundsurge.com's forum in the speaker or soundcard sections - the people there are helpful and the moderator Mark always gives good advise.

That reminds me, the reason I was fiddling with the settings was because my REAR left speaker was higher and brighter than the rest the Wave/MP3 volume fixed mine though. at 50% volume on that, both rear speakers were louder, and at 100% on the wave/mp3 it was fine.
