Sound & Vision Magazine - Free 1 Year Sub

Thanks - signed up for a free subscription. The only problem was I HAD to include a friend's name & email. I put in one of my other email addresses!
 
This is a good deal and tempting (I let my subscription lapse a few months ago), but as a long-time S&V (originally Stereo Review) subscriber I have to say that the mag has gone way downhill in recent years. It is a shadow of its former self. Lost is the scientific, technical POV for reviews and the glut of speaker reviews. Now it reads more like a trade mag for home theater installers, as there is a lot of focus on pretty installations and the like. I guess in hindsight this was an obvious direction when they hired a new editor-in-chief who had previously been editor of a car audio mag.

Anyway, as I said, it is tempting, but I grew tired of getting a new disappointment in the mail every month. Of course it is a good deal though and thanks for posting it. I just had to take the opportunity to gripe a bit.

I agree. I felt the same after 1yr of Stereophile. It seems the only decent feedback on gear is in HT/HiFi forums, and even they can have shills.

I fully agree about the magazine going south in, what I preceive, quality. I used to subscribe to Stereo Review in the 80's when I would be anxiously checking my mailbox for the latest issue. I religiously read every page & dreamt of having enough money one day so I can own some good equipment. Remember Julian Hirsch's speaker reviews? The magazine had some in depth reviews & now it seems like more fluff than stuff. Sigh...

 
I just got my first issue.
Now my concern is will they automatically continue after the free year and send me a bill 3 months after I receive my first paid version?
