sound upgrade

I?m looking for some help on a sound upgrade. To begin with the sound cards I?ve came up with are Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer Soundcard and the Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card. On the speakers I am looking at Altec Lansing ACS56, Boston Acoustics BA4800, and Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 Speaker System Model 5300. On the sound card I was going with the creative labs sound card but have read that the turtle beach might be the better of the two. On the speakers I was thinking of going with the Boston Acoustics BA4800. I have read good things about all three of the speakers. I am looking for a system for mainly gaming but want an over all good system. Also the creative Labs is a 5.1 system while the other two systems are 4.1, is the 5.1 something that I need to have? What is the difference between the 4.1 and 5.1 and does it make a huge difference in the actual sound to the point that the average person would notice it? I would like to have a good gaming system but not at the expense of having a good over all sound system. Looking for any help to decide on which would be the best combination!

i have the boston acoustics BA4800, and they are excellent. I also just put in a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card (i used to have a creative Soundblaster LIve! value). I'd say that dvd and mp3 quality is absolutely excellent with that combination, however games are just a notch below the dvd/mp3 performance. If I had to do it again, i might seriously have gotten an audigy, but the BA4800's are excellent. OVerall, i'm content with my system.
