Peavey stuff isn't too bad. I used to have some Peavy speakers before I upgraded to the GMI's I use now. Peavey stuff is more geared towards bands than like DJing kinda stuff. Hmm...well, if you just need to be able to talk and to play music, without needing any of the special Dj-esque stuff, here's a quick recommendation:

Speakers: JBL TR125 - $259.99/each, two way, 15" woofer
Amp: Crown CE-1000 - $499.99 OR QSC RMX-850 - $399.99
Dual CD Player: Gemini CD210 - $299.99
Mixer: Any simple 2 channel, should run you about $5- - $60
Mic: Anything will do

That runs over a little, but it's really basic stuff, you can't get a full setup for much less than that.

<< Klipsch Pro Medias are so far away from what you need its not funny. >>

Yeah Klipsch ProMedia speakers are individual-only speakers really, and wouldn't even work in a large living room, let alone a room the size of what you are talking about. Go to mars music to get an idea of what you need, their sales people are pretty helpful/lnowledgeable and will get ya started.

Pro Sound
That is where I get most of my equipment. Look around, they have some really nice stuff, from complete low end to high end.

Deeko- you know you are really cutting the price short on the mixer. I mean you mixer is basically your "source" of the music. If you have a crappy Mixer with crappy D/A converters why bother having a nice set of speakers and nice Power Amp? Now, there is nothing wrong with getting a good 2-channel mixer, but only budgeting $60 for one is kind off like buying the fastest best computer box made today and viewing it through a 14" monitor.

Well, I picked just a simple mixer cause I was already over the budget :) The Vestax PMC03A is a good 2 channel mixer, it is around $140 though.

for something 7500ft, you'll never fit any quality into a system near your pricerange... hell, you'd be running close to $1000 for just the cabling/wiring itself!!! (assuming you'll want non-generic cables).

Let's just hope he doesn't want to run more than 2 sources! "what do you mean you need 2 microphones and a CD player!?!"

Actually, the best thing would probably be to buy used. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck.

urameatball,

I was just thinking that you could spend half the budget on 3 average microphones (not counting cable)!

My question is, who's banquet hall is this? If it is for your family--and you are trying to help your dad--my advise is this: don't.

No offense, but you obviously don't know very much about this stuff, and you might give some very bad/costly advice. It sounds like you're in over your head. So far, you haven't really told us your requirements, so the advise here isn't all that specific to your needs.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I do have a little experience with this stuff.

My general advice would be:

-buy used if possible
-buy a small system for day-to-day activities, rent when you need more (like for a full band, or when you need to pump out the tunes)

He meant 7500 square feet.

And now that bands are out of it, I can't help you as much. I still think that buying used gear will get you a lot more bang for your buck.

But, from a general audio standpoint, what's the inside of the hall like? Is it a live room? By live, I mean, does it echo a lot (like a school gymnasium)? or does it sound more like a movie theatre (when no movie is playing)? It's a real bitch to make a live room sound good. Speaker placement will be key for that. It helps if there is carpet though.

No carpet, it might not echo because my dad decicided to put 3 layers if insulation in the walls.
I think we are going to buy some carvins and a gemeni cd player.

<< 3 layers if insulation in the walls >>

What is on the walls affects the echo, not what is in the walls.

What about just renting equipement? For $1000 it's going to be tough to put together a good quality basic system. Renting will probably run around $300-$500 depending on what kind of setup they're offering.

Oh,
well like I said its not for bands or anything we just need a really good pa system now.
its going to be there for a long time so renting is out of the question.

I think I got the info I was looking for.
all we really want to use it for is for announcements and some light music playing.
