Ok. I am doing some research over what kind of speakers should be bought to supply the sound for a reception hall. This reception hall is 100ft wide and 75ft in length. I was thinking a couple of sets of those Klipsch pro medias .....but I am not sure. What do I need to think about when buying speakers for a dance hall? What should I know ? I will need certain connections right, for like the microphones and for amps for the bands or something right?

thanks.

All around....
something that would be good for everything..
But i dont think much rap/bass would be needed.
this is a reception hall for like weddings, banquets, quincenieras..

Hmm, well it really depends on what kind of music you are going to do. Are you going to use a computer of some sort to play the music? Remember whatever speakers you do get you are going to have to get an Amp of some sort to power the speakers. Be it speakers with built-in amps, getting a powered mixer, or getting a mixer and a seperate power amp.

I think you can find what you are looking for but if you want help from us folks you really should give us more info :)

When it comes to DJing-like speakers, Gemini holds its own in the low-end, and JBL owns the high-end. I personally have 2 GMI speakers for DJing, they are pretty much exactly like my friends Gemini's, and sound pretty much the same...they get pretty loud, but I am only pushing 160 watts max into them, if you're looking for louder, I'd say look at JBL's, they have some pretty nice ones for around $250/piece, those are their cheapest.

no thats what im saying..Which way should I go...yea it will need an amp for the bands to perform and stuff...so what should I get?
whats easier/most convient for people to set their band up the quickest and easiest way.
See im not to familar with this kind of stuff.....I mean I just want to have a speaker system

:::::::::
I just asked my pops and he said its mainly for playing like cd's i guess and it needs to be able to supply us with a wireless mic.
so its not for the bands to use.... This is for people that like want to have their own music and just pop in their own cd's.

I think it is a little off to say that JBL owns the high end, there are some great speaker companies out there that personally I think will out-perform the JBL speakers, although I have used JBLs and have been pleased for the situation, but they would not be my ideal choice for the same amount of money.

Ok, maybe not owns, but when it comes to standard, high-end loudspeakers, JBL's are usually what you would think of. I get a few catalogs of DJing equipment, and they don't really have anything that competes.

So basically you want a PA system right? So bands can play live through or you can have a CD player setup to play music through correct?

I am gonna PM ya with some info

Maybe JBLs are what YOU would think of, but seriously some other companies make some GREAT stuff. Nothing against JBL of course. :)

Mackies make some GREAT boards, but I don't think he will be able to afford a Mackie board, Power Amp, and a decent set of speakers for $700. There smallest "combo" mono mixer/amp goes for near $600.

Like? I know pretty much about the stuff in the catalogs I get(Pro Sound, Upstairs Records), but not much about other stuff. So if there are other companies that can compete, let me know, cause I don't know of them.

Hmm...for an amp that isn't too expensive, I'd say look at either Crown or QSC, they make some pretty good stuff. Vestex makes nice mixers, but they are a little pricey.

Yes the biggest thing is figuring out how much YOU want to spend on a PA setup dude. I mean you can get a little cheap-o for $250 or get into the thousands and thousands of dollars, so....

Deeko- Hmm one company I can think of is EV (Electro Voice) of the top of my head.

Yea, I know of EV, they do make some pretty nice stuff...I dunno, when i think of them, I think more of like wedding reception speakers than dance music speakers. But I don't know all that much about them.

Deeko- I guess you could be right about that. EV's are more geared to "real" music rather than pre-programmed dance loops. I mean does a Raver care if he can hear the perfect "pop" on a Snare drum? I didn't think so, hehe

$1000 is not a lot to spend on this kinda stuff. What all do you need?

-Speakers
-Amplifier(s)
-Mixing board
-Equalizer
-Microphone(s)
-Cabling

I've never purchased this stuff before, but I've rented a lot of Peavey equipment.

You talk about "bands". Are you planning on providing all the equipment need for a full band? If so, you'll need several microphones, a mixing board, at least 1 amplifier, some speakers (preferable mounted somewhere, or with stands) and a bunch of cabling.

You haven't really said what it will be used for. If it's just for public address (like giving speeches) and background music, you need MUCH MUCH less than if you're trying to provide for a full band. To play music at DJ levels, you need lots of power, but not as many microphones, and a much simpler mixing board than for a band.

More details please!

And most bands like to have monitors. So you'd need a seperate amp, and speakers for that too. Monitors are the little speakers that are at the front of the stage (or performing area if there is no stage) that point back at the band. It's so they can hear themselves.

Actually, for $1000, you're not going to get much more than a nice public address system. The budget just isn't big enough.

You can always rent the stuff you need when you are going to host bands. Often times, they'll have a lot of their own stuff anyway.

Klipsch Pro Medias are so far away from what you need its not funny.
